Hungary will never be able to support the transatlantic and European integration of Ukraine in a situation where Hungarian schools in Zakarpacie are at risk," wrote Peter Szijártó on his authoritative social media account on Friday evening following talks with UN Deputy Secretary-General for Human Rights Ilze Brands Kheris.
In his Facebook entry, the Minister of abroad Affairs and Trade recalled that while we welcome children and students fleeing Ukraine in 1,300 schools and kindergartens in Hungary, 99 Hungarian primary and secondary schools in Ukraine endanger to close due to the Ukrainian Education Act. He added that a number of laws have been passed in Ukraine since 2015, which gradually violate and restrict the rights of minorities to usage their native language.
"Over the last 8 years, we have continuously received promises from the Ukrainian authorities that they will solve this problem, but in fact they have done nothing," said Szijjarto.
