Member Krzysztof Szymanski comments on the budget for 2025 adopted by the Sejm.
In the Sejm, we could one more time see how far most of the political class is from a liable approach to public finances and long-term national interest. The budget voted by the current government deserves separate, extended and powerful criticism. However, the following text, as part of the public debate in the opposition, I devote to the budget amendments tabled by the Law and Justice, which were a typical example of populism, irresponsibility and shortsightedness. Why?
Firstly, amendments were mostly based on shifting funds from public debt service. It is an action not only short-sighted, but even dangerous to the sovereignty of Poland. Public debt service is not abstract accounting – it is the basis of our economical independence. Any omission in this issue increases the hazard that Poland will become a hostage of abroad financial institutions. We cannot let the sovereignty of a nation to be put on the marketplace in exchange for temporary investment.
Secondly, the amendments besides proposed investments through taxation increases. I argue specified a policy that strikes Polish entrepreneurs and hard-working citizens. The increase in fiscal burdens is not the solution. specified actions, alternatively of developing the economy, suppress its potential, limiting the possibilities of developing Polish capital. taxation policy must service to build economical independence, support the mediate class and make conditions for growth. Raising taxes or advocating their growth is simply a choice of an easy but damaging path. This is an irresponsibility that only increases citizens' dependence on the state.

— Krzysztof Szymanski (@KSzymanskiKonf) December 6, 2024Thirdly, the amendments abounded with proposals to shift funds to many local infrastructure investments without reducing overall expenditure, while maintaining a evidence deficit. Investments are important, but they must be rational, strategical and implemented in accordance with the real budgetary capacity. Proposals that do not take into account financial stableness are not building the strength of a nation, but measures aimed at temporarily gaining support. Infrastructure should be a tool to support the improvement of the full country, not a political gift given by parties for immediate benefit. Bridges and roads cannot be built at the expense of the financial stableness of future generations.
The amendments showed that the compromised leadership of the PiS inactive treats the state budget as a bottomless sack from which funds can be drawn freely for any promise. specified a policy is simply a denial of a liable approach to public finances. all gold issued comes from the work of Poles. It's not a private electoral fund, it's a nation's money.
National sovereignty begins with liable management of public finances. We must not depend on abroad loans or drain Polish portfolios. Poland needs a liable financial policy that will service the nation, not political thunder. Poland needs unchangeable public finances, economical improvement based on work, accumulation of Polish capital and long-term strategy.
I'll support it, not budget gambling.
