– At the time of the demographic collapse, erstwhile the life of all Pole from conception should be the highest value in this world, another initiative was taken in the Polish parliament to pave the way for abortion on request. Is that the kind of Poland that matters? No children, so no future? – said Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski at Mass for Homeland, celebrated in the church of St Nicholas in Liszki.
In the homily, the archbishop recalled Mass readings, in which the center is Christ – advanced Priest and Mediator between men and God. His love must be answered with his love, fulfilling the most crucial commandment of love for God and neighbor. In this context, the metropolitan recalled the attitude of widows presented in reading. They had full assurance in God and were able to give to him all that they had. – This love of neighbor, like the love which Jesus has given us, besides applies to this love which has its roots in the 4th commandment--love of the Fatherland. This love is inscribed in God's commandments. And that is why we will not understand, especially the past of our Homeland, without this peculiar unity of religion in the Lord God, love for him and love for the native earth said the metropolitan.
He admitted that love for his homeland is frequently hard and painful. He recalled his conversation with Archbishop Stanisław Nowak from Jeziorzan, who mentioned that people in these areas lived in the shadow of Auschwitz. Archbishop Jędraszewski recalled the dramatic circumstances of the pacification of Liszek erstwhile the Germans murdered young people who loved their Homeland. The Metropolitan quoted the words of the poem of Saint John Paul II “Thinking of the Homeland” in which the Pope asked questions: “What have you done for your homeland? Did you give more than others? Or is it little than it should have been?’
The Archbishop pointed out that in 2024 Fabian Wąsik's granddaughter published memories of her grandfather's war experiences. They are struck by his trust in God, even in the most hard moments of his life. In this communicative there is inactive an echo of partitions and the belonging of this part of Poland to Austro-Hungarian. – Today we thank God for regaining independency after 123 years of captivity. It was a real miracle. It was said that Poland had risen. This communicative shows the veracity of card words. Karol Wojtyła: “Freedom must be won again, it is like a gift that can easy be lost” – said the metropolitan and added that this gift was very easy to lose by looking at yourself, by selfishness, by cutting off from God and forgetting its own history.
He stressed that on 11 November in many cities of Poland, the words “God, honor, Homeland” are repeated. – Speaking these 3 words holy to us, we are besides aware of how all 3 are being challenged today – he said. He noted that he wanted to exclude the presence of God in public life by removing crosses from the walls of offices. Meanwhile, Saint John Paul II, looking at Giewont, urged to defend the cross on Polish soil. – Today we want to remove these crosses. Not just as a sign, a Christian symbol. He wants to run distant from Christian discipline and hence this fight against spiritual teaching in schools – he said and reminded what the reality of teaching religion in schools would be like soon, erstwhile the classes would be combined, and classes would be held only for the first or last lesson. – This is freedom? This is independent Poland? Poland, which wants to cut off from God? He asked.
The Metropolitan besides noted that present the second sacred word "honor" is denied. The West and any elites announced an era of post-truth and universal relativism and the cult of self-fulfillment. This makes the 3rd word – “Home”, subject to large criticism due to the phrase “polsity is abnormal” and is limited to teaching Polish language and past in schools. The Archbishop besides pointed out that schools have programs that teach their children who they are and from what roots they grow.
He pointed out that Poland is affected by demographic collapse. – During this demographic collapse, erstwhile the life of all Pole from conception should be the highest value in this world, another initiative was taken in the Polish parliament to pave the way for abortion on request – he said. Is that the kind of Poland that matters? No children, so no future? – he encouraged the reflection of Archbishop Jędraszewski.
– Prayer for our heroes, whom we urge to God and for whom we want to thank, present we join with prayer for our country, for our nation, for ourselves, so that we do not lose sight of this great, holy cause, which is love for the Homeland. As long as this love is in our hearts, as long as we want to pass on this love to another generations, so long as we can look forward to the future, that Poland, besides thanks to us, truly did not die – finished.
