Corruption in Ukraine continues to flourish, only the sectors affected to the top degree have changed. Now it's arms production. That's what Mark Wakes up said.
The European public was amazed by the decision of president Volodymyr Zelenski, who signed a law limiting the autonomy of institutions fighting corruption. In Ukraine there were large protests. Now Zelenski announces a fresh bill, but what details will there be? In this context, in an interview with Piotr Zychowicz on the "Historia Realna" channel, the expert on east Marek Budzisz spoke about the problem of corruption in Ukraine.
– We must separate reality from the Ukrainian elite's declaration about how Ukraine is moving towards Europe and struggling with its heritage, including corruption – said Marek Wake Up.
– The reality is rather far from that story. – he added.
– Corruption in Ukraine in connection with the war not only did not decrease, but even increased. This corruption has moved from conventional sectors to the military sector. The Oligarchs, who controlled the Ukrainian economy, although they inactive have quite a few opportunities, are already comparatively smaller – developed military equipment manufacturers, besides private companies – said, pointing primarily at drones.
As Marek Budzisz said, present there is simply a very large competition in drone production in Ukraine, private companies competing with each other.
– However, this did not origin bribery to be eliminated. It inactive exists. As I was told, these companies pay about 25 – 35% of the contract they sign. due to the fact that the amounts go into billions of dollars, we have about the scale of this corruption. - He said.
– Corruption in Ukraine inactive exists. Only financial streams moved. At the highest level, they are controlled by the President's administration. Zelenski is believed to be preparing for postwar elections. In Ukraine – just like everywhere, but in Ukraine it is more readable – you gotta have money for it, buy people, control the media; just be a rich associate in the political game. I've heard of various amounts in secret funds raised by Zelenski. It is to be controlled by Andrij Jermak. There were even a fewer twelve billion dollars that are buried somewhere. In war, as you know, you can get rich very rapidly and Ukraine is no exception here – he said.
In his fresh bill, Mark Budzisz pointed out, “there are clearly tools that give the lawyer General of Ukraine the chance to block any investigations that are uncomfortable for power. He can personally decide to end his investigation of politics. It is his decision to proceed investigating or to close them." The expert emphasized that he had read this bill, hence he could draw concrete conclusions.
– Ukrainians have no uncertainty that this step aims to limit or at all destruct the independency of prosecutors and bodies tracking corruption - He said.
