Even agentura Sorosa notes: young Poles want to break the duople [Batory Foundation report]

A large proportion of young voters do not know who they will vote for in the presidential election, their conviction may be crucial to the result of the election – according to a study founded by George Soros of the Batory Foundation. Young people admit that they are content with life, but disappointed in the state and politics. They want an authentic and competent president to break out of organization duopol.

Report disappointed state, happy life. The presidential elections of young Polish women and Poles examines the survey carried out on a group of young Poles, concerning, among others, their electoral preferences and attitude towards the war in Ukraine, as well as the qualitative attitudes and motivations of young Poles associated with participation in presidential elections. The investigation was carried out by Ipsos for the Batory Foundation.

The study stressed that in the 2023 parliamentary elections young (18-29 years) and women whose mobilisation led to a change of government played a key role. According to the publication, the voices of young people will besides have a crucial impact on the result of the upcoming presidential elections, as well as the subsequent parliamentary elections in 2027.

The analysis referred, among others, to the March survey More in Common Poland, according to which in the group of youngest voters,

aged 18–24, 39 percent do not know who they will vote for in the presidential election and in a group of voters aged
Indeterminate percentages of 25-29 years are 30%.

As has been stressed, there are a group of 4.5 million voters, although little many than older age groups, but the least well-established opinions and political assessments. Therefore, according to the authors of the report, the ability to get their votes may prove decisive for the final outcome.

It was noted that the most support among the strong young voters was given by the Confederate candidate Sławomir Mentzen, and then candidate KO Rafał Trzaskowski. It added that young women more frequently declare circumstantial electoral preferences than young men.

The survey besides looked at what problems young people consider to be the most important. precedence are: improving the quality of wellness care, strengthening Poland's security, ensuring control of migration and reducing the cost of living.

As underlined, issues frequently promoted by the political and media elites as peculiarly crucial to young people – specified as the liberalisation of the "right" to execution unborn children and the alleged "to combat" climate change – are placed much lower on the list of priorities. Young people do not consider the erstwhile power to be peculiarly crucial and to improve the legal situation of sexual minorities.

The most crucial origin of concern are youth migrations, while the most concern for the general population is the war in Ukraine and Russia's aggressive policy. According to the report, young people are little afraid about the global situation and the possible of war, and have a more critical approach to supporting Ukraine. The most crucial issues for them are those they see as having the top impact on their regular lives –

health (including access to healthcare),
material situation (life costs, access to housing) and
safety

Among the young are those who believe that matters in the country are going in the incorrect direction. There is besides a dominant belief that they cannot number on the support of the state and its institutions, but must trust on themselves and their loved ones. However, this does not translate into an assessment of their own situation. The majority declares their satisfaction with their lives and the feeling that Poland is simply a good place to live.

Young people want the future president to be primarily authentic, competent and focused on the real problems of citizens, especially the young generation. They want to break the current organization duo and decision distant from passive and predictable presidency.

According to participants in the qualitative study, the key features and competences of the perfect president should include:

the ability to represent the country with due respect and dignity on the global stage, the cognition of abroad languages, especially English, the ability to exercise strong leadership, consistency and authority, advanced individual culture and developed interpersonal skills, openness, the ability to perceive to and realize the problems of people in the country, to take care of different social groups, to have an opinion, and, if necessary, the ability to argue one's own organization (the best would be a partyless candidate), good appearance and presentation.

In the opinion of the respondents, these expectations are improbable to be met by candidates.

The study besides notes that young people looking for information about public life and politics trust mainly on the net and, above all, on social media, which they perceive to be more reliable or at least easier to verify than conventional media.
