–The worst evil of our time is that we have turned into enemies of the cross – The average of Orihuela-Alicante Diocese pointed out. During the conference on Catholic activity in public life, Bishop Jose Igancio Munilla stressed that popular ideologies are now hostile to Christian religion – but unfortunately they penetrate the Church and distort its doctrinal message.
On Saturday, November 16, Bishop Jose Ignacio Munilla attended 26th legislature of Catholics and Public Life at the University of CEU St Paul. The clergyman confessed that he had forgotten to take with him the outline of his speech. However, the improvised lecture proved to be as valuable and interesting as possible.
Bishop Munilla pointed out that culture is presently experiencing a powerful crisis. Its core is, according to the hierarch, "an enemy to the cross"... Unbelief in the liberating value of the sacrifice and self-denial for the greater good.
As the bishop said, the problem exceeds political issues and circumstantial events in the public sphere. – We have soaked with planet reasoning – He lamented the clergy. – The biggest evil of our times is that we turned into enemies of the cross – the bishop added. This is the effect of the influence on the culture of lifestyles and ideologies of strangers on the Christian spirit, the hierarch believes.
Among the most destructive tendencies of hostile Christianity, the clergy first mentioned “capitalism and consumerism”. It is simply a reality of spiritual emptiness, in which the constant usage of material goods seeks a chance to satisfy man's longing for infinity.
As Bishop Orihuela-Alicante emphasized, socialism is besides an ideology hostile to the cross, “because it forgets the existence of sin”. – Forget about the victim and claim that the "papa state" will solve everything – the priest pointed out.
Among the “enemy cross” the hierarchist ideology besides mentioned sex theory. In his opinion, LGBT “is a yearning for the category of law alternatively of recognizing emotional wounds”.
The common core of these tendencies is the rejection of suffering and the desire for its final destruction. The value of sacrifice and adversities is denied, and ideologists promise a planet free from bitter experiences. Thus the experience of suffering in any form becomes intolerable to the modern and is immediately presented as an injustice which must be put to an end.
All these currents affect culture and it affects the Church, impairing the operation of the Mystical Body of Christ. According to Bishop Munilla, the causes of the current crisis of religion should be sought precisely in the "internal secularization" ... the adoption by the Church of planet reasoning and secular pseudo-values.
Contrary to this tendency, Catholics present must find the courage to form their thoughts and deeds based on the imitation of the Divine Master, not the patterns of this world, emphasized the clergy. – In these times we must discover the wisdom of the Cross – The bishop said. In order to defy decadent influences in culture, it takes “the movement of believers who take seriously the imitation of the Crucified”, he added.
– Jesus was not a pluralist moderator – He reminded the clergy that on the pages of the Gospel, Christ never erstwhile foretold that Christians should live in relationship with the full world, and that they should only be sympathetic. He announced to his students something completely opposite, pointed out Bishop Munilla.
