DUBLIN— Ryanair (FR) passengers arriving at Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) from Bristol Airport (BRS) were shocked to learn their checked baggage had been left behind in the UK. The pilot of flight FR4757 revealed post-landing that no luggage had been loaded due to a security-related delay at Bristol.

The incident affected all passengers on the flight, including a group from Taunton traveling to Maspalomas for special celebrations. Many travelers were left without vital items, including medication, as temperatures soared in Spain.

Ryanair Luggage Mishap on Flight

Ryanair flight FR4757 departed Bristol Airport (BRS) on Friday, destined for Gran Canaria (LPA). On arrival, passengers were dismayed when the pilot announced that not a single checked suitcase had been transported.

The airline attributed this error to time constraints caused by a security issue at Bristol, though no specifics were disclosed.

Among the passengers were 11 friends from Taunton, en route to Maspalomas for birthday and graduation festivities. Madeline Cooper, 22, described the moment they were informed:

“We had no issues during the flight. But when we landed, the captain said the decision was made to leave all luggage behind.”

Reports from Bristol Live indicated that around 70 bags were affected, with only a single pram reportedly making the flight. Passengers initially thought the announcement was a prank until they realized their belongings were indeed missing.

Essential Belongings Lost and Health Risks

The missing luggage included critical personal items such as medication, contact lenses, toiletries, and sun protection. Passenger Sophie Payne, who suffers from severe asthma, was left without her inhaler, stating:

“It was really stressful. I take it twice daily and my condition worsens at night.”

The group, staying at Cordial Green Golf Bungalows, faced the challenge of sourcing medical supplies and necessities in an unfamiliar location. As of 6 PM on Saturday, Ryanair had provided no further updates regarding the arrival of the luggage.

Older passengers also struggled with Ryanair’s guidance on tracking updates via the app, highlighting a communication gap for less tech-savvy travelers.

Financial and Emotional Impact on Travelers

To cope, the group spent €60 on transportation to a shopping center for emergency purchases like clean clothing and toiletries. Madeline commented:

“We’re all students. We can’t afford to keep replacing everything.”

The absence of essentials also meant exposure to high UV levels without sunscreen, leaving many sunburned. Sophie noted,

“There’s a lot of burnt bodies around here.”

The situation disrupted plans, including birthday celebrations, a water park visit, and a private boat tour, all contingent on the timely return of their luggage. Some passengers anticipated an additional hour-long round trip to the airport to retrieve their bags if they arrived.

Social Media Outrage and Lack of Updates

Frustrated travelers voiced their anger on social media. One user wrote:

“Great start to the holiday as Ryanair decided to bring zero suitcases from Bristol to Gran Canaria. No heart medication for me tomorrow.”

Another lamented being in Gran Canaria with “zero belongings,” reflecting the broad scope of inconvenience caused by the airline’s oversight.

As of the latest updates, Ryanair has not issued an official statement or apology regarding the incident, leaving passengers to wait in uncertainty.
