The cancellation of the elections in 2024 in the I circular was illegal – the Administrative Court in Ploeszti, Romania ruled. However, this will not change the situation excluded from the Călin Georgescu race. The fresh presidential run is already underway and the elections will be held on 4 May.
On 24 April, the Administrative Court of Ploeszti ruled that the decision of the Constitutional Court of 2024 to annul the 1st circular presidential election was unlawful, and ordered its annulment. He besides gave the Constitutional Court 5 days to appeal the judgment.
However, the decision of the Administrative Court will not change the situation in Romania, since the judgments of the Constitutional Court are final and irrefutable. Consequently, Călin Georgescu is inactive excluded from the elections and the fresh presidential run is already underway. The vote will take place on 4 May and the possible second circular will take place on 18 May.
The first circular of elections on 24 November 2024 was unexpectedly won by Călin Georgescu – an anti-systemist, leader of the "cross-right" (as the left-liberal lobby states). However, the vote was annulled by the Constitutional Court, and for the authoritative reason was given "Russian interference" in the presidential campaign. However, until today, no evidence of abroad impact surgery has been found, and data published by EU cases indicate a marginal coverage of profiles linked to Russian intelligence.
As a consequence of the cancellation of the elections, a fresh presidential run began, however, on 9 March 2025. Georgescu was excluded from it by the Central Election Office. 2 days later, this decision was upheld by the Constitutional Court.
In the electoral polls of the current campaign, he leads another "extremely right" politician – George Simion, but has besides small support to win the first round.
