In March 2024, Kopania lost his position as president of the Municipal Investment Implementation Company after Salon24 journalists revealed that he had an anonymous account on the network “CasperVanDeHag”, on which he attacked politicians of various options. The profile featured entries in which Jarosław Kaczyński was called "a pathetic psychopath", Szymon Holovnia "an infantile brat", and Magdalena Biejat was compared to "the empty drum of Zenka Martyniuk's band". The case became the subject of an election campaign, and then the candidate for president of Warsaw Przemysław Wipler publically asked Rafał Trzaskowski about hiring a hater.
Now, just a day after the defeat of Rafał Trzaskowski in the presidential election, Digging returns to the public sector. Recruitment was due to start in May, and the vocation itself was announced in the interior PHN newsletter. Polish Real property Holding is straight subordinate to the Ministry of State Acts, which is presently headed by Deputy Minister Robert Kropiwnicki (PO).
The ministry asked about the case replied that it "does not interfere with the company's personnel policy", and PHN himself refused to comment on the recruitment of Marcin Kopani. At the same time on his X account, he published political comments supporting the PO and hitting another groups.
The Polish Real property Holding has not yet revealed who approved the candidacy of Marcin Kopani, nor what competences decided to return him to the public sector. For many observers, this is simply a symbol of the deficiency of transparency in state structures. There are besides questions about the effectiveness of fighting hate, since those associated with hatred speech return to public jobs without major obstacles.
According to data from 2022, 71% of politicians in Poland experienced attacks on the network. 64% of them believe that these attacks were intended to discredit their public image. Moreover, 45% of politicians believe that hatred in the network is 1 of the biggest threats to safety and political stableness in the country.
In this context, the return of Marcin Kopani to the public sector seems peculiarly unfortunate. It seems that Polish Real property Holding and the Ministry of State Assets should carry out a more detailed verification of candidates for public posts in order to avoid situations in which people with controversial past return to power.
However, the case of Marcin Kopani may come back – especially if the subject is taken up by opposition or media. Then we can anticipate more detailed explanations from the Polish Real property Holding and the Ministry of State Assets.
