“Let your conduct be free from greed for money: be content with what you have. For God He said, "I will not leave you nor leave you."
Before this message in Hebrews, the apostle wrote: ‘Remember those who are imprisoned, as if you were trapped alone, and those who suffer, for you are besides in the flesh. In worship be matrimony in all respect and the bed undefiled, for God will justice fornicators and adulterersIt’s okay. ” And then there's this statement: “Let your conduct be free from greed for money: be content with what you have. For he himself said, I will not leave you nor leave you.”
The apostle continues: ‘So we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid, for what can man do to me? Remember your superiors who preached the word of God to you, and remember the end of their lives, imitate their faith! Jesus Christ yesterday and today, the same for ever. Do not be seduced by various and alien teachings.” (verse 3-9a).
As for the quote that we will repeat for 2 weeks so that we may be free from greed for moneyThe apostle writes elsewhere: ‘For the greed of money is the root of all evil. Following them, any have strayed distant from the religion and have pierced themselves with many pains.” (1 Tim 6.10). The treacherous apostle Judas is simply a terrible example of loving money. Jesus clearly says: "You cannot service God and mammon."
How did the apostle become a traitor? Judas was blinded by passion—love for money. Money has taken over his head and heart. It didn't happen suddenly. Passion has its origin, improvement and maturation. Judas first started paying attention to money and gradually began to want it very much. Money, just money! They took over his full being. The lust for money cast out of Judas' soul everything else—from the minute he began greedily seeking money, he cooled down in love with the Lord and became insensitive to all his admonitions. He was approaching the abyss. Greed grew in him, and erstwhile the chance appeared to betray Jesus to his enemies for money, he did so.
Greed is 1 of the main sins. This passion is highly dangerous due to the fact that it becomes more blind, intoxicated, and makes man insensitive to God and neighbor. St. Augustine wrote: "Greed is insatiable. He always robs and never gets satisfied, does not fear God, does not fear a man, does not spare his father, does not admit his mother, does not perceive to his brother and does not stay faithful to his friend. He squeezes the widow, squeezes the orphan... He is giving a false witness.’ Defend yourself first! Judas was a prototype of all future ones who, guided by any passion, left Jesus Christ. The passion of pride, the passion of greed, the passion of uncleanness! You cannot service 2 masters, you cannot service God and mammon (sin). From the beginning, you gotta do precisely the other of what your passion requires.
The apostle emphasizes: ‘ZEnjoy what you have“ adding: “For God said: I will not leave you nor leave you.”
