In 2020, the PiS introduced a sugar taxation (sugar charge) for sweetened beverages. Many companies, experts and institutes had already opposed this burden, indicating that government gross forecasts for this reason were greatly inflated. Changes in this taxation are to enter into force, which will constitute an extension of the tax, and the Confederation opposes it.

"These are the plans that the government has for the industry, which is very strong in Poland. ... This is the impact on the Polish consumer and Polish production in this market. The Confederation is calling for Polish beverage industry, juices, Polish orchardry, saying “no” to this tax.” said Robert Winnicki.

The sugar taxation will include:

– fruit and vegetable products specified as nectars and beverages with a high, at least 20 % juice content in which there is no added sugar;

– natural juices that do not have added sugar but to which ingredients are added

increasing their wellness values;

– beverages donated to charity (even juices for children from children's homes do not

can be transferred without tax)

“We are dealing with a kind of global innovation: a levy on sugar naturally occurring in fruit.”
