Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that if the European Union had looked as it is in 2004, Hungary would most likely not have joined it. He added that if conditions outside the EU are better, the structures managed from Brussels will gotta emerge.
On the future of Hungary in the EU, Orban spoke on Wednesday evening during a forum organised by the Fidesz organization in Pilisvoeroesvar close Budapest. The main themes of the gathering were the possible accession of Ukraine to the EU and the parliamentary elections in 2026.
During the time for questions, 1 writer asked the Prime Minister to comment on Hungary's current position in the Community. – If the EU had looked as it looks in 2004, it is not certain that we would have joined it Orban replied.
On the question of the sense of staying in the EU, the Prime Minister replied: " It must be decided erstwhile the minute comes erstwhile it is worth deciding to leave, but it must be determined after deep thought.
Orban has besides clearly defined the circumstances which he considers will support Hungary's EU appearance: Abandonment should happen erstwhile membership defects outweigh its advantages. This minute has not yet come.
Also on Wednesday, the head of government in Budapest summed up the forum's run on Facebook. He one more time appealed to Hungary to vote against Ukraine's accession to the EU during the ongoing 2025 referendum.
"The accession of Ukraine to the EU for respective decades will find the future of Hungary ... we can lose everything we have worked for for for the last 15 years," wrote the Prime Minister adding that Ukraine's entry into the Union means "no more agricultural subsidies, reduced municipal fees and household benefits".
