– The household is simply a positive, large and beautiful reality fundamental to our individual life, as well as to the Church and society. – said Apostolic nuncio in Poland Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazi.
In a homily delivered on 2 August during Masses starting Thanksgiving celebrations in the household in Toruń, the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland stressed the importance of household in society and the Church. – The household is simply a positive, large and beautiful reality fundamental to our individual life, as well as to the Church and society. – he noted.
In this context, he recalled the words of Pope Leon XIV, who pointed out that matrimony "is not an ideal, but a canon of actual love between a man and a woman: total, faithful, fruitful love." The Holy Father besides pointed out, as Archbishop Filipazi recalled, that "the task of those liable for exercising power is to make efforts to build harmonious and peaceful civilian societies. This can be achieved primarily by investing in a household based on a lasting relation between a man and a female – this “domestic society, although very small, is simply a actual community and older than any country” (Leon XIII)”.
The Archbishop pointed out 3 words that could summarize the message of the Holy Mass: “Jubilee, Martyrdom, Heart.”
Focusing on the first of his readings, he pointed out that in the Old Testament, “the erstwhile Jubilee was a period which all 50 years allowed to reconstruct appropriate relations with God, men and creation.” – Our families request a return, or renewal and reconciliation, which is possible only if our lives and relationships turn to God. Let us pray that all household will experience this Year of Jubilee through specified gestures that will lead to conversion – emphasized the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland.
Archbishop Filipazzi, referring to the Gospel of the Martyrdom of St John the Baptist, said that this passage "recollects the seriousness and even the drama associated with the life and promotion of the household according to God's purpose." He pointed out that St. John the Baptizer "bravely rejected the compromise with unjust authority and immorality, proclaiming his blood the primacy of God and His commandments." He besides recalled the words of St. John Paul II from the encyclical Veritatis splendor, stressing that "if martyrdom is the highest evidence of moral truth, to which comparatively fewer are called, then there is besides a work of witness which all Christians should be prepared to give all day, even at the price of suffering and large sacrifices."
Speaking of heart, the nuncio referred to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which is especially worshipped on the first Saturday of the month. – The virtues of this Heart – faith, obedience, purity, humility, silence, prayer – are besides fundamental to authentic household life. The planet despises these virtues, but they are needed more than ever, and deficiency of them frequently causes difficulties and even failures in household life. In addition, the Immaculate Heart of Mary protects and strengthens families besides in our hard times – stressed Archbishop Filipazi.
At the end of the homily, the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland drew attention to the value of Holy Mass, from which "the ability to live in communion and overcome wounds and trials in household life is born". – May the Eucharist so be our rock! Let us pray that she will teach us and make us capable of surviving according to the logic of her gift, which St.John Paul II so frequently reminded. Let us pray that all families find themselves in Eucharistic celebration, especially Sunday, light and grace to grow in actual love – encouraged Archbishop Fillipazi.
