Our east neighbour is celebrated for his unimaginable corruption. The phenomenon is all the more dangerous due to the fact that it besides concerns the issue of state defence. This time, the prosecutor's office there. revealed the activities of the mafia led by erstwhile Deputy Mayor of Kharkiv. The group was to get 5.4 million hryvnia, i.e. approx. PLN 470 thousand, from state funds for building fortifications in the Kharkiv region.
New corruption scandal in Ukraine. The criminal clique consisted of 5 persons, including 2 directors of construction companies and 2 tiny entrepreneurs, conducting single-person business.
According to the lawyer General of Ukraine, Ruslan Krawchenko on his profile of Telegram, the leader of the group of Vice-President Kharkov and the manager of 1 of the companies invited the head of the alleged “krzak” company and 2 individual entrepreneurs. The deceivers bought construction materials at prices above 30% compared to the marketplace value and presented the state authorities with left invoices to pay. As a result, the State budget suffered losses of 5.4 million hryvnia.
All suspects have been detained. As has been revealed, the issue of corruption and fraud related to the construction of field fortifications is only part of the crimes for which they are prosecuted. The investigation besides covers another cases of the activities of this organised group.
"The funds stolen from the budget must be full reimbursed to the State. And it's not just the case. All those who want to be rich at the expense of defence or army, I inform you – you will bear full responsibility” – wrote the lawyer General.
