The success of the anti-immigrant and anti-system alternate to Niemiej (AfD) induces the anger of the left. The Greens and the Left express outrage that the second strength of the Budestag can be considered as an opposition party. In their optics, AfD constitutes a "threat for democracy" and should not be affected by the present standards of parliamentary debate.
The opposition Greens and Left powerfully criticized Jens Spahn's CDU policy for saying that the alternate for Germany should be treated in organizational matters in the Bundestag as any another opposition party.
"People like Jens Spahn, who inactive did not realize that AfD is an utmost right-wing organization that tramples on human rights and wants to destruct democracy, are part of the problem," said the paper “Sueddeutsche Zeitung” president of the parliamentary faction Left Heidi Reichinnek.
AfD "is not a political competitor like any other, he is simply a political opponent," Reichinnek stressed.
‘If AfD were an opposition organization like any other, Spahn would not even think of saying something like that, but that the group is "a destructive, partially confirmed utmost right-wing extremist organization whose aim is to undermine our democratic freedoms," said Co-Chairwoman Franziska Brantner, quoted by "SZ".
In a weekend interview with the paper “Bild” Spahn advocated partial normalization in contacts with AfD. "I would simply urge that we act with AfD... in the same way in terms of procedures (...) as with any another opposition party," he said.
The position of AfD is so strong, “because voters wanted to tell us something”, and it is so crucial to find “the right balance”, he added.
Since the February elections to the Bundestag AfD is the second strongest organization in the parliament and has over 150 MPs. It presently has advanced support in public opinion polls and in any studies it has overtaken the Chadetic CDU/CSU block – recalls ‘SZ’.
