Due to the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran, the Ministry of abroad Affairs (MFA) announced the evacuation of Poles in the mediate East. The operation is scheduled to begin on Monday or Tuesday, and Polish citizens will be transported by land via Jordan or Egypt and then by plane to the country.
What will the evacuation look like?
According to Radio Zet information, evacuation will be carried out through border crossings in Jordan (Amman) or Egypt (Taba). Poles will first be transported by land and then by charter or cruise plane. Among others, the honorary consul in Bethlehem is involved.
MFA calls for contact with diplomatic institutions
MFA spokesperson Paweł Wroński called on Poles in the mediate East to return to the country as shortly as possible if they did not gotta stay there. He besides stressed that it is crucial for citizens to contact Polish diplomatic institutions where they will get reliable information.
“We ask Polish citizens in these areas to contact Polish institutions due to the fact that there is real information” said Wronski.
The MFA besides recalls the request to check recommendations before travelling and registration in the strategy Odysseywhich enables fast contact in crisis situations.
Israel-Iran conflict escalation
The situation in the mediate East intensified rapidly after another night of retaliation. Iran carried out rocket and drone attacks on Israel, resulting in 10 deaths and about 200 wounded. Residential buildings were damaged, including a home in the town of Tamra, mostly inhabited by Israeli Arabs.
Israel responded with a series of raids to targets in Tehran related to Iran's atomic programme. The Iranian authorities confirmed that 1 of the buildings of the Ministry of Defence was "lightly damaged" and 2 fuel retention facilities close the capital were attacked.
What about the safety of Poles in the region?
The MFA monitors the situation and keeps the recommendations up to date. In the event of further escalation of the conflict, further evacuation actions are possible.
