The draft amendment of the Act on IPN and the Criminal Code penalising the alleged Volyn lie and the glorification of flagism went to the seismic freezer. Its action is blocked by the alleged coalition on 13 December, whose marshal, Simon Hołownia, assured that the bad practice of freezing projects will go back to history. The case is described in “Our Journal”.
As the diary recalls, the first reading of the bill took place on 6 February 2025. Efforts were made to get the paper consecutive to second reading, but it was addressed to the Committee on Justice and Human Rights. And that's where the freezer was waiting for him.
As our diary learned in the Parliament, the task is "at the phase of committee work after first reading. In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Sejm, the committee shall be chaired by its bureau, inter alia by drawing up draft working plans for the committee and by setting deadlines and agendas for meetings."
Stopping work has nothing to do with the complexity of the project. It's a political game. The paper contains only 2 provisions – it speaks of the penalization of the alleged Volynian lie, that is, public denial, depreciation or relativisation of crimes committed by the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (CNS), Ukrainian Insurgency Army (UPA) and another cooperative formations with the 3rd Reich.
The second component of the fresh is the introduction of the criminality of promoting the flag ideology as 1 of forms of totalitarianism, comparable to Nazism, fascism or communism.
The punishment would be subject, among others, to denial of genocide in Volyn and east Małopolska. At least 100,000 Poles died of these crimes, as well as Jews, Czechs and Armenians. Here the regulations go in the same direction as in the case of the “Oświęcim lie”.
