Anniversary of the start of the Turkish Trembovli bellowing

Today in our calendar we will look at the life and activities of the protagonist of the siege of Trembowli, Anna Dorota Chrzanowska.

Anna came from a burgher household from Kurland named Fresen. You don't know precisely erstwhile she was born or what she did erstwhile she was young. She married an officer of the Polish infantry Jan Samuel Chrzanowski. Since then, she accompanied him in many war campaigns, and those in the 1960s and 1970s. The 17th century was without a hitch. Chrzanowski fought among others under Chocim. She lived in Trembowli, where Jan became commander of the local garrison at 1 point.

After the Treaty in Buchacz of 1672, Trembowla became 1 of the fortresses defending the border from the Tatar invasions, who established their base of departure in Kamieniec Podolski. Although in the run of 1674 King John III Sobieski managed to recover much of Podol, the war continued and these areas were inactive threatened.

In the spring of 1675 a fresh Turkish-Tatar expedition was launched against Poland, which was commanded by Sultan Ibrahim Szyszman's son-in-law. The Ottoman Empire sought to renew the provisions of Buchatsky, that is to make the Republic its vassal. The 60-thousandth invasive army spilled across Podol and Volyn, occupying a number of fortresses specified as Zbaraz, Podhajce and Bar. The local population was looted, raped and murdered. Happy are those who have only been taken into the Tatar jasy. The Turks were much worse and left bare ground behind.

Chambulas went westward, but any of them were beaten by Sobieski under the Forests. The Shishman, along with 10 1000 Turks, headed for Trembowla, hoping to easy capture the castle and plunder it from its possessions. The next mark of his attack was the Lions. In the strategical layer, the plan had a good chance of success. The Crown Army was weaker and not best commanded by the Crown Field Commander Dmitri WiśniowieckiKing Sobieski was only gathering forces in the country, and in Trembovla only a symbolic 80-man infantry unit of Chrzanowski was stationed.

Fortunately, the castle was comparatively well prepared to defend itself. In addition, respective 100 local nobles, townsmen, and peasants took refuge in it. They could have supported the defence, but they were not of large combat value. Szyszman approached the fortress on 20 September 1675, hoping to take her without a fight. The crew refused to surrender, so he entered the regular siege. For more than a week, Polish positions were shelled and stormed, but even the janchers could not control the walls.

Poles defended themselves hard and effectively. They were heated to conflict not only by the commandant, but besides by his wife, who walked on the walls, despite enemy fire. The Turkish miners, who, by blowing up part of the walls, would have facilitated the final assault, moved to battle. The detonation of an inept burden did not give anything. Subsequent attacks increased Turkish losses and Szyszman's irritation. Meanwhile, the Polish side was highly exhausted. Most of the defenders died or suffered wounds excluding further fighting. There was besides the end of war material.

A council gathered in the castle, during which the anticipation of surrender was discussed. The debate was overheard by Anna Dorota, who did not want to hear of any surrender. She ran into the area with a fewer women and children, and then began to rebuke the surrender thought with a raised voice. She argued that 1 should fight until the last drop of blood, as after the fall of the fortress, the women and children gathered in it will be returned to the Jasyr and will service as slaves in abroad lands.

She said that if they as men deficiency courage and will fight, she and the townspeople will defend the walls and die, but the Sultan's harem will not go. According to her, the rescue is definitely near, and the king will not let them to be slaughtered. At 1 point she was expected to pull out 2 daggers and turn to Chrzanowski, saying: My husband, if in our hearts the love of freedom and of the Fatherland is quenched, I will push you and others myself.

Her strong speech made specified a large impression on the assembled that they parted ways, rejecting the thought of surrender. Chrzanowska and the townspeople, according to the announcement, took arms and went out to the walls, which caused a dismay in the Turks, due to the fact that in Islam death by a female is considered the top disgrace. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Szyszman received news of Sobieski's army approaching, and on October 5 he abandoned the siege and then withdrew from Trembowli.

Soon the king arrived in the city, who personally thanked the defenders for their courageous attitude. The further run ended with a series of Polish victories and a truce in Żurawno, which remained until 1683. Anna Dorota Chrzanowska and her husband became celebrated throughout the Republic of Poland. The 1676 Sejm gave them nobility and attributed them to the coat of arms of Poraj. In addition, John received a promotion and a monetary prize of PLN 5000, which was a tiny luck at the time.

Soon the spouses moved to Lviv. A fewer years after the siege in Trembowla, a statue was built in honor of Anna. She was one more time honored with a memorial in interwar times, but the Soviets devastated him after 1944. In fresh years, it has been renewed, reminding of events centuries ago.

Anna Dorota Chrzanowska is an example of a brave and powerful female who did not hesitate to catch arms and fight the enemy in defence of herself, her dignity and her Homeland, over which the mortal danger hangs. To the end, she believed that the king would not forget her and come to her rescue, which besides happened. Thanks to her stubbornness, not only the people of Trembowla turned their backs, but besides the full war, as the brave defence of the fortress proved to be a climax, allowing the concentration of the Polish army to be completed.
