The coalition list of SLD-UP received 41.04% of the vote in 2001, even more than the current PiS. For a minute on the basis of the polls it even seemed that they would be the first to have a stand-alone majority in the Sejm, but ended up with modest 216 seats.
If Leszek Miller screwed it all up, it's about a large book, not a blogger. I will focus here on 2 mistakes that have peculiarly painfully affected these elections.
First of all, Rywin's affair that broke out shortly after the election. Miller reacted to her with a unusual stupor resembling Platform's reaction to octopus eavesdropping.
Like now the Platform, so then the SLD acted like there was no scandal. If everything can only be brought to a fewer fat jokes, they'll all forget the case.
Miller's inaction was gained by the scouts from the Sejm's committee of inquiry, which, as the Sejm's committees of inquiry, served more the autolans of individual MPs than explaining anything. Everything Miller was doing in this case was suicidally stupid, including the final vote in which the SLD was stuck to the ground, leading to the adoption of the alleged Ziobra study (most unfavourable to itself the final version).
The next 10 years of Leszek Miller's career are 10 years of mistake. It is hard to find 1 reasonable decision from this period.
A beautiful final accent were trying to hide behind the back of 2 women – Cucumber and Nowacka. Only this time I don't think even Joanna Senyszyn will buy a communicative "we did not lose, but our candidate for the office of President/Prime Minister".
Besides, he'll buy or not buy what it matters now. Zed is dead, baby.
I find the second problem more interesting. Many political leaders in Poland tend to make a mistake, which was the specialty of Leszek Miller's 10 years career.
It's a mistake to treat voters as feudal peons whose lordship the Earl can sale to his heir, along with the village, the forest, the cattle and the inhospitable. That's the belief that if Miller and Palikot announce a combination of their assets, due to the fact that this 1 has 4 percent, and this 1 has 5 percent, they'll be 9 together.
Well, there are people who could vote for Miller starting with the SLD – but they won't vote erstwhile he starts off the self-defense list (as Miller himself found out "the hard way" in 2007). There are SLD supporters and Democratic organization supporters who will not vote for the LiD coalition. There are supporters of Palikot who will not vote for the Miller-Palikot common list – and so on.
Miller, I have a feeling he never understood. due to the fact that all election had a different, superb thought of that kind. He tied 1 coalition, dissolved another. Now it seemed to him that the “United Left” would simply bring the aggregate consequence of all coalitions.
It did not happen to him that voters voting for Palikot, due to the fact that he is specified a peasant to a blant and to a glass – will control to Liroja with Kukiz. And voters, to whom the electoral attitude of “hard neoliberalism in the economy and thin anti-clericism in moral matters” corresponds, will flee to Modern Richard.
And His Lordship will be alone in an empty village.
The SLD committed suicide in the presidential election. No organization could last anything as stupid as Dr. Cucumber's candidacy.
If the SLD had then taken off on its own, exposing any of its leaders – possibly a weak score, something between Korwin and Palikot. But that would be a solid basis for fighting at least 5 and a half in an equally independent run to the Sejm.
Just as the Platform condemned itself to the present second place of the scandalously incompetent presidential run – just as Miller's then mistake condemned the SLD to marginalization. The SLD has been a political dead body for six months.
In this election, the SLD did not die. It's just that the body was yet removed from the ventilator. Time to drop the lump and give a speech.
I'll advertise Asnyka.
