Pope Francis wrote a letter to Catholics on the renewal of the survey of the past of the Church. It besides encourages you to deal with “black cards” of this story. He wants to break up with the angelic image of the Church and show that he has his sins to learn from.
The letter was published on Thursday, November 21 in many languages, including Polish.
According to the Holy Father, the question of past survey is peculiarly crucial in the formation of priests. The Pope expects seminarians – as well as another people active in pastoral ministry – to pay much attention to the past of the Church. This is meant to guarantee a link with the past, continuity in reasoning about the Catholic community, giving the anticipation of a better rooting.
However, Francis believes that an crucial change is necessary. Well, historically, studies would besides research the “dark pages” of Catholic history, which the pope believes will lead to a break with “ecclesiological monophysism”, that is, “too angelic concept of the Church, the Church, which is not actual due to the fact that there are no stains and wrinkles”.
“The church, like the mother, must be loved as it is, due to the fact that otherwise we do not love it at all, or we love only the creation of our imagination,” writes the Holy Father.
“The past of the Church helps us to look at the actual Church so that we can love the Church, which truly exists and which has learned—and is inactive learning—from its mistakes and falls. This Church, who recognizes herself besides in her dark moments, becomes capable of knowing the stains and wounds of the planet in which she lives, and if she tries to heal this planet and to make it grow, she will do so in the same way as she tries to heal herself and make it grow, even if she frequently fails. It is about correcting this terrifying approach, which makes us realize reality only from the position of triumphalist self-defence or the function it performs" - he convinces.
The full of the Pope's letter is fundamentally a large incentive to survey history, and it would be commendable. The problem is that erstwhile generals are sown, there is 1 circumstantial element: the call to face what was expected to be incorrect in the past of the Church.
One could say that we are dealing with an effort to introduce into the past of church critical theory. Pope Francis has repeatedly shown that he likes to criticize the Church's past. We saw this on the occasion of his journey to Canada and the issue of Catholic education for indigenous peoples in this country, but besides on many another occasions, even erstwhile it comes to dealing with homosexual environments.
Although no detailed indications are emerging from the latest papal, this does not seem necessary: the number of liberal Catholics who simply dress with their feet to “dispose” of the Church's past is so immense that they only request sparks burning the pile; and the papal letter can perfectly execute this role...
For example, a Jesuit student and a patrolman who will avenge the feudal past of the Church, or a publicist of a popular Catholic weekly who questions the validity of 1 of the dogmas. Now this kind of communicative can support simple: il papa vuoleThe Pope wants it.
