Active, camouflaged homosexuals in a priestly or spiritual environment are a disaster. They frequently sow havoc that cannot be described. This is where the origin of the scandals we are witnessing lies – says Fr Joseph Augustyn, Jesuit, recollectionist and spiritual life manager. He explains that so the “Instruction” issued for the pontificate of Pope Benedict XVI clearly states that there should be no place for active homosexuals in priestly communities.
Oh. Augustine explains that for the 20th century the life of the Church of candidates for priesthood was not asked about sexual tendencies, but about their behaviour and moral attitude. – She was the 1 who decided on the priesthood. At the same time, homosexual behaviour was explicitly condemned, and active clergy homosexuals were relegated from priestly life or imprisoned in a monastery – emphasizes the priest.
However, the attitude towards homosexuality in the formation of priesthood changed radically in the second half of the 20th century due to the designation of homosexuality in Western culture as a average thing or even promotion of this phenomenon. – In just 20 years, homosexual environments... have become a strong political, cultural and media force – like a Jesuit.
As he explains, in specified a situation homosexuality in Western countries has besides penetrated the formational environments in the Church. There have been popular analyses, specified as John McNeill's "Church and Homosexuality", which have proved that homosexual relations can be morally good, that they are based on constructive altruism, not destructive selfishness.
Oh. Augustine explains that Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, as the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, received detailed information about what was happening in the Church in this subject and was terrified. The Jesuit recalled Benedict XVI's celebrated letter, written after the service, which mentions "gay clicks" in any seminars.
Therefore, respective months after his election as Pope, he approved the “Instruction of the Congregation for Catholic Education on criteria for discerning the vocation in relation to people with homosexual tendencies”. "It clearly states that "it is not possible to accept or let people who practice homosexuality to have deep-rooted homosexual tendencies or to support the alleged "gay culture".
– For the first time in 20 centuries of the Church's existence, the Holy See ruled out homosexuals from the priestly ranks in a decisive and unambiguous way. It was a historical breakthrough – I'm suggesting a priest. At the same time, the “Instruction” exposed Benedict XVI to the hostility of homosexual groups in the Church, to the point that – as the pope explained – “in a large number of seminars students caught reading my books were considered unfit for priesthood.”
Although, according to Fr Augustin, in Poland, the seminary of men, openly admitting profoundly rooted homosexual attitudes and behaviours, the vocation process contains many gaps through which specified people can penetrate the interior of the Church.
– The vast majority of candidates come almost straight from the street, with the opinion of the parish priest in hand, most frequently after a reasonably random examination. The interview and the entrance exam (and this only takes a fewer hours) do not mostly give the chance to get to know the candidate in depth: who is he; what experience does he have of prayer, spiritual life; what problems he has; how does he conflict with weaknesses; what does he truly want to enter the seminary? So it may be easy for candidates to include random people, including homosexual problems – notes the Jesuit.
The pastor emphasizes that individuals who have had individual homosexual behaviour during the seminar, especially erstwhile they were sought and initiated by a candidate; they are thrown out. However, erstwhile a seminarian with certain homosexual “inclinations” shows good will, he is sincere, engages in formation and does not behave worse, he receives a chance.
– It is usually a request for therapeutic aid and wise spiritual guidance, for it is both a intellectual and moral problem. Much depends on the spiritual struggle, openness and ability to usage the help He emphasizes.
– The anxiety of homosexual alumn will not be an obstacle erstwhile he has a deep sense of meaning and intent of his life. When, after a period of discernment, prayer, same - work, he firmly declares his desire to keep sexual purity, his superiors can trust him. This is all subject to discernment. And the final decision belongs to the bishop, who is usually represented by the Rector of the seminary – explains the Jesuit.
Despite these principles, any men abuse the trust of superiors and prosecute their homosexual tendencies as ordained priests. Fr Augustine believes that although any of specified persons are in a priestly state at most a fewer percent, even individual cases are a real disaster for the Church; not so much a picture, but a moral one.
– A double life led by years is destructive to conscience, and leads to deep emotional and intellectual disorders. Cynicism, perversion are a constant part of the behaviour of those who destroyed their conscience... Actively camouflaged homosexuals in a priestly or spiritual environment are a disaster. They frequently sow havoc that cannot be described. They provoke fellow priests or clerics, usually younger and weaker mentally. They test the limits of their moral resistance, sometimes in alcohol fumes. It can be traumatic and shocking for those who experience specified a test, even erstwhile acting assertively. The scale of mischief they sow and the harm they do is hard to express in words. Sometimes it's a real moral crime. They wreak havoc in their own souls, and sometimes in their fellows' souls – emphasizes the priest.
Oh. Augustine argues that there are circles of homosexual priests who know each another and support each other. – But all this is done in hiding, somewhere “in the underground.” But specified phenomena cannot truly be hidden. They are secure, but 1 “accident” situation, specified as the 1 in Dąbrowa Górnicza, makes the case known “the full world” – I'm convinced.
According to the priest, any specified situation should be actively opposed. – We gotta counter it, inform our superiors, etc. This is not a fight against people, but an evangelical concern for a clear evidence of the religion of the people of the Church. I will repeat what I said years ago: “If a homosexual lobby exists and has something to say in any church structure, it is due to the fact that we give way to them that we are getting out of the way. [...] erstwhile 1 situation like this is tolerated, it becomes a “standard” for the full environment: “So it can”. This is simply a very bad signal” (intelligence for KAI of 25 III 2012) – Concludes.
