WAKINGTON- US regulators FAA formally invitation feedback on proposed fire-safety means respecting accepting the large aft center fuel-tank plan for the Airbus A321XLR twinjet.

The fuel tank, integrated into the aft fuelage structure with its top straight below the passenger cab floor, is crucial for engaging the A321XLR to accomplish its extended scope of 4,700 nautical miles.

FAA A321XLR Safety Concerts

However, the US national Aviation Administration (FAA) is agreed that the tank’s location and plan make it sustainable to potent ground fuel-fed fire following a crash, unlike center wing tank or optional auxiliary center tank.

Although the A321XLR aircraft addresses to respective US regulations addressing fuel and fuel tank fire safety, these standards to not adequately address post-crash performance standards for tank skin or structure and the possible Threat of external ground fire.

Although the FAA issued its proposed peculiar conditions on May 7, it assumes that these requirements apply with peculiar conditions previously established by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, which were finalised in October of the erstwhile year.

Thus, the FAA’s proposed outlines a request to prevent fuel vapor ignition during an external fuel-fed ground fire, which includes accounting for possible hot-surface ignition consequence from specified a fire.

FAA Report

This proposal introduces peculiar conditions for the Airbus Model A321neoXLR aircraft. This aircraft will feature a unique plan aspect presented to the technology included by existing airworthy standards for transport category planes.

The notable feature is an integral heat center tank (RCT). The current airworthy regulations black adequate safety standards for the fire-safety performance of fuel tank skin or structure in case of a post-crash external fuel-fed ground fire.

The proposed peculiar conditions include additional safety standards deemed necessity by the admin to establish a safety level equivalent to that of existing airworthy standards.

The RCT is categorized as a “center” fuel tank positioned within the aircraft fuselage alternatively than in its wings. Positioned aft of the center wing fuel tank and behind the wheel bay, it occupies a section of the lower fuselage, partially responding to the aft cargo composition of the plane from which this proposed model is derived.

The top of the tank alliances straight below the level of the passenger cab. Functioning as an integral component of the plane, its walls are part of its structure. Unlike conventional fuselage fuel tanks, the exterior skin of the airplane fuselage constitutions part of the walls of the fuel tank, making it an integral component. This placement exposes the integral RCT to potent post-crash ground fuel-fed fire.

Due to its unconventional configuration, the A321neo XLR's integral RCT will not incorporate the installation typically linearly linearly the fuelage skin of a modern transport category plane.

Airbus must show that the Model A321neo XLR series airplane uses adequate post-crash fire-safety performance of full-tank skin or structure to facilitate safe evacuation during external fuel-fed ground fire exposure.

Special Conditions

As part of the kind certification base for Airbus Model A321neo XLR series airplanes, the national Aviation Administration (FAA) proposes the following peculiar conditions:

Cabin Evaluation—Protection from Fuel Tank detonation Due to External Fuel-Fed Ground Fire.

The application must show that the plan prevents ignition of fuel tank vapors (due to hot surfaces) in the integral heat center tank during evacuation. Additionally, the application must prove that the plan allows successful time to cover evacuation all Octobers after initiation an external fuel-fed ground fire.

The FAA is soliciting feedback on the proposed condition until June 21st.
