On Friday, June 27, 2025, the school year 2024/2025 officially ended. This is simply a minute for which more than 4.8 million students have been waiting throughout the country. For thousands of them it was the first year of educational adventure, and for others – the last step before graduation, professional exams or starting a vacation job.
4.8 million students goodbye school benches
From data provided by Ministry of National Education it is clear that in the passing school year, Polish schools attended 4 million 882.2 1000 children and adolescents. Of which:
- above 3.2 million students in primary schools,
- 1.67 million students in secondary schools.
Many schools held ceremonial academy and graduation, and among the students peculiar emotions accompanied nearly 430 1000 first graderswho first received their certificates.
The symbolic end of the year with the Minister of Education
The central ceremony was held in Primary School No. 5 in Nysawhich was rebuilt after the flood with government support. She took part in the event Minister for Education Barbara Nowacka, which stressed the importance of ending this hard school year, especially in regions affected by natural disasters.
PLN 204 million to rebuild and repair after the flood
One of the most crucial topics of this year's graduation was Government financial support for destroyed educational institutions. In total:
- PLN 165 million to rebuild schools and kindergartens in 63 local governments,
- PLN 39 million au additional repairs,
which gives a full PLN 204 million to improve education infrastructure.
The most resources went to communes Bardo and Lewin Brzeski in Lower Silesia and Opole – regions peculiarly affected by the flood. With this help, many schools were able to resume their activities before the end of the year.
Deputy Ministers in the field – education at the centre of attention
The end of the school year was besides accompanied by visits by representatives of the Ministry of Education in various parts of Poland:
- Catherine Lubnauer visited schools in Boat,
- Henry Kiepura was active in the completion of the Silesia,
- Isabella Sobietka represented the Ministry of Education in lubuski.
The presence of deputy ministers in the regions stressed the importance of local educational investments and cooperation between local governments and the government.
Summary of the year and future preparations
The end of the school year is not only a time of joy from the upcoming holidays, but besides moment of summary and planning of next actions. The Ministry of National Education has already announced the continuation of support for schools in difficulty.
Many local governments plan renovation and modernisation work during a vacation break. The aim is to improve the learning and safety conditions of students since September. According to the ministry's declarations, investments are to cover not only flood-stricken facilities, but besides those that require thorough modernisation.
Education facing challenges
The school year 2024/2025 brought a number of challenges, including. the request for disaster recovery, but besides discussions on digitalisation, student safety and quality of education. In the opinion of many experts, the upcoming vacation is simply a good chance to reflect on the direction in which Polish education is going.

Leisure and hope for a quiet fresh year
In conclusion, both students and teachers are entitled thanks for the effort made in the passing school year. Despite hard conditions – floods, organisational changes and the request to rebuild infrastructure – the education strategy worked stable.
Students start a holiday, which will last until 31 August 2025. The fresh school year 2025/2026 will start on Monday, 1 September. MEN ensures that this will be the time for further stabilisation and improvement of schools across the country.
