Last Monday a gathering of the Polish Academic corp Aquilonia was held in Warsaw with Dr. Mariusz Patey – a writer who specializes in the field of the economy of Inter-Mediterranean and energy safety and the Honorary manager of the Roman Rybary Institute.
Dr. Patey gave a lecture on the character of Prof. Roman Rybarski, 1 of the leading economists associated with the national camp and Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw. The talker outlined the main principles of the economical thought of Fisheries, stressing its actuality in the modern economical context.
In particular, attention was paid to:
- free marketplace based on values of Latin civilization "The fishermen saw the economy as an integral part of the national community, where ethics and civic work play a key role.
- taxes and transparency of the fiscal system "It was stressed that Rybarski advocated a simplified taxation strategy that would advance entrepreneurship and economical development.
- economic patriotism – The concept of national economics has been presented as an alternate to both utmost liberalism and state interventionism.
The lecture was followed by a lively discussion during which participants analysed the thought of Rybarski in the context of contemporary economical problems. another economists associated with the national camp, specified as Edward Taylor or Adam Heydel, were besides addressed and their views were combined with the Fisheries Association.
The differences between approaches to the function of the state in the economy were discussed, which in the 1930s frequently oscillated towards statism, even within national movements. The discussion led the participants to reflect on the anticipation of adapting the thoughts of pre-war economists to the realities of the 21st century.
