Alaska and Singapore Airlines to End Partnership from October 2025

dailyblitz.de 5 hours ago

SEATTLE- Alaska Airlines (AS) and Singapore Airlines (SQ) have announced major changes in their long standing loyalty partnership. Effective October 1, 2025, reciprocal mileage redemptions between the two carriers will officially end.

This means travelers will no longer be able to use Alaska’s Atmos Rewards points to book Singapore Airlines flights, or vice versa.

While limited mileage earning will continue, the scope of benefits is being significantly reduced, particularly for travelers booking directly with Singapore Airlines.

Alaska and Singapore Airlines Partnership Changes

Alaska Airlines, headquartered in Seattle (SEA), has long been recognized for its extensive web of airline partnerships, which extend beyond the oneworld alliance that it joined in 2021.

Singapore Airlines, based at Changi Airport (SIN), has been one of its most valuable non-alliance partners since the collaboration began in 2017.

The partnership originally allowed members of both airlines’ loyalty programs to enjoy reciprocal earning and redemption privileges across a wide range of routes.

This arrangement gave Atmos Rewards members access to one of the world’s top rated carriers and provided Singapore Airlines travelers with connectivity across Alaska’s vast domestic US network.

However, beginning October 1, 2025, members will face the following restrictions:

  • End of Reciprocal Redemptions: Travelers will no longer be able to redeem Atmos Rewards points on Singapore Airlines or KrisFlyer miles on Alaska Airlines flights.
  • Earning Limitations: Members can still earn points under a phased system:
    • For tickets booked through August 31, 2025, earnings remain at current rates, regardless of travel date.
    • For tickets booked between September 1 and December 31, 2025, points can still be earned.
    • For travel from January 1, 2026, onward, Atmos Rewards members will only earn points if the booking is made directly on alaskaair.com.

According to OMAAT, this essentially makes the partnership transactional, where only customers brought directly through Alaska’s booking channels will see continued benefit.

Why the Partnership Matters

For nearly a decade, this partnership allowed seamless loyalty benefits for passengers connecting between Singapore Airlines’ Asia-Pacific routes and Alaska’s US domestic services.

The ability to redeem Atmos Rewards points for premium cabins on Singapore Airlines was considered one of the most valuable perks of Alaska’s loyalty program.

The scaling back suggests that Singapore Airlines may no longer see incremental value in maintaining such generous redemption opportunities.

Some industry observers speculate that the carrier experienced a high ratio of redemptions relative to bookings, reducing its incentive to continue offering reciprocal benefits.

Singapore Airlines, while a Star Alliance member, has historically maintained limited cooperation with United Airlines (UA) in the US market.

Its willingness to partner outside its alliance, such as with Alaska, highlighted its pragmatic approach to North American connectivity.

Future Travel Implications

For passengers, the practical effect is a significant reduction in loyalty program flexibility. Atmos Rewards members who frequently travel between the US and Asia on Singapore Airlines will lose redemption privileges, making premium cabin travel more costly in terms of points.

That said, interline agreements between the two carriers will remain in place, meaning travelers can still book itineraries that combine Singapore Airlines’ long-haul flights with Alaska’s domestic network for seamless connections, especially at Seattle (SEA).

For travelers prioritizing loyalty rewards, however, the benefits are shrinking. Going forward, Atmos Rewards members seeking Asia-Pacific connectivity may need to look toward other oneworld partners, such as Japan Airlines (JL) or Cathay Pacific (CX), for redemption opportunities.

Bottom Line

Alaska Airlines (AS) and Singapore Airlines (SQ) are scaling back one of the most attractive transpacific loyalty partnerships in the market.

As of October 1, 2025, reciprocal points redemptions will end, and earning opportunities will be restricted to Alaska driven bookings from 2026 onward.

While connectivity between the two carriers remains possible through interline agreements, the loyalty value proposition is greatly reduced for frequent flyers.
