Why is Christmas Eve not a day off from work? Isn't it unusual that the most popular, for many the most crucial night of the year follows a simple day of hard work? That there is no time to prepare for it and that it is done quickly, in awe and in a tense state – just as many wonderful holidays have at least children who look forward to it.
It is known that before each vacation there is any confusion at home, but the advanced level of pre-vigilating stress has become almost part of the tradition. In the vicinity antique shop, I regularly encounter gentlemen on Christmas Eve, who supposedly went out to choice up parsley in the store, but actually hide there from an upcoming Christmas dinner.

So if the problem is purely economical and we can't afford a fourteenth day off work, then go ahead – let Christmas Eve be free in exchange for January 6.
