The European Parliament was asked to waive the immunity of Euro MP Daniel Obietek. The case concerns allegations of failure to comply with obligations and overshooting of powers in order to get the individual benefit which was to be granted as president of PKN Orlen.
The EP president, Robert Metsol, addressed the proposal to the European Parliament's Committee on Legal Affairs. A formal request for the waiver of immunity was made on 19 December last year by lawyer General Adam Bodnar, but it is considered to be an effective transportation of the paper to the EU authorities that the EP president has officially read the letter in plenary, which has just happened.
MEP KO Bartosz Arłukowicz reported on the X portal: “It was Robert Metsol's EP president who announced at the plenary session that she had received a request to waive Mr Obietek’s immunity.”
According to the D.A.'s office, Daniel Obietek was to conclude 2 contracts for detective services with the company, which he himself indicated, in order to get individual information about opposition politicians. Both of them are accused of failing to fulfil their duties and of exceeding their rights, which was to origin damages to PKN Orlen in the amount of PLN 393 600.
Daniel Obatek himself referred to the charges, stating:
– It's all legal, I've never had politicians under surveillance, I had all right to act erstwhile I realized that there were statutory bodies at stake.
– This is simply a truly comic situation – he concluded.
