About 10,000 Ukrainian citizens live in Russian captivity, of which more than 8,000 are soldiers. In total, however, there may even be respective times more. The UN reports that more than 95 percent of Ukrainian POWs are being tortured. – The worsening situation of global safety and the increase in gross to the Russian Federation's budget due to the emergence in oil prices may negatively affect planned prisoner exchange – Assesses Mr Michał Dworczyk, Vice-President of the safety and Defence Commission of the European Parliament.

According to the information provided by the Ukrainian authorities, about 10,000 Ukrainian citizens live in Russian captivity, an absolute majority, due to the fact that over 8,000 are soldiers. These people are being held in hard conditions, returning from captivity talking about torture and another atrocities that meet those held in captivity by Russian guards. All of this creates a dramatic image that has nothing to do with standards and global law – emphasizes Michał Dworczyk, MEP of the Law and Justice Agency.

Ten 1000 is an officially confirmed number – covers only those prisoners whose position is known and reported by the global Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). An estimation of the full number besides covering the missing, whose families fishy they are in captivity, and persons held in the alleged grey zones – without contact with the family, without registration by the IRCR, may be much higher. Amnesty global in its study "A Deafening Silence: Ukrainians hell incommunicado, forcibly disappeared and tortured in Russian captivity" indicates that there are data on about 55,000 Ukrainians missing in the state records. The global Committee of the Red Cross points to 50,000 missing people, mainly soldiers (90 percent).

Since the beginning of the war, more than 5.7 1000 citizens have returned to Ukraine in respective twelve prisoner exchanges.

This must be seen from the humanitarian point of view, but besides from the psychology of the battlefield. If the soldiers believe and can hope that even after being taken prisoner they will be replaced and return home, then it works rather differently on their morale than in a situation where they feel they will be left to themselves and their country will not be curious in their fate. In this context, I believe that any replacement of prisoners of war is good and Ukraine should be supported in these efforts to guarantee that as many prisoners as possible are listed. – Michał Dworczyk evaluates.

Reports and investigations confirm that Russia systematically and brutally violates global law in the treatment of Ukrainian POWs and civilians. According to the UN mission monitoring human rights in Ukraine, more than 95 percent of the prisoners in Russian captivity endure torture. These include beating with metallic batons, electrical shock, rape, amputations or extrajudicial executions. They are systemic, considered crimes against humanity. Amnesty global confirms that systematic torture, deficiency of contact with family, rape and deficiency of medical care violate the Geneva Convention.

Russia inactive treats prisoners very badly, not only military but besides civilian. This is simply a problem that unfortunately is simply a certain Russian tradition, that is, murder, torture of detainees, whether they are soldiers or civilians. If I were to say present what are the political chances of getting consequences from those liable for these crimes, I don't think there are any. We should focus on making certain that as many people as possible return from slavery to home, but I hope that someday there will come a time erstwhile the guilty will be judged. – emphasises the Euro MP of PiS.

The United States and Turkey play a major function in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Although in the first years of the war it was Poland that mobilised the world's public opinion to support Ukraine, present our country is little visible in key diplomatic processes at global level.

Unfortunately, we are besides passive, present we have given the initiative to 3rd countries specified as Germany or another countries, even much smaller than Poland, but more active in global forums – says Michał Dworczyk.

The war in Ukraine may be affected by an increasingly tense geopolitical situation. The mediate East war is peculiarly affecting global commodity markets, especially oil, which has already increased prices. For Russia, which is 1 of the largest oil exporters in the world, higher natural materials prices mean greater financial revenues that can be allocated to the continuation of the war in Ukraine and limit the willingness to negotiate.

The worsening situation of global safety and the increase in gross to the Russian Federation's budget due to the emergence in oil prices may negatively affect planned prisoner exchange – assesses the Vice-President of the safety and Defence Commission in the European Parliament.

After more than 3 years of intense warfare Ukraine faces fresh challenges. The number of volunteers entering the service is falling, which is simply a serious problem in the context of the prolonged conflict. Despite many incentives, most troops inactive come from mobilization. Ukraine launched, among others, a program aimed at attracting men between the ages of 18 and 25. It offers financial incentives, including a bonus of €4,000 and the anticipation of leaving the army after a year of service. However, the program attracted only a fewer 100 recruits. However, the elimination of the staff deficit is essential as Russia intensified attacks on the front lines and managed to take control of larger territories in northern and east Ukraine.

The problem of people is 1 of the most important. On the another hand, Ukraine's economy and finances are comparatively unchangeable erstwhile it comes to arms supply, combat measures, here besides the situation is much better than in 2022 or 2023, but the problem is people. Today, this front mostly stands still. The only active actions and changes in the control of the territory take place in the north of Ukraine in the Sumic region, but in rule the front stands. This indicates that Ukrainians inactive hold the possible to defend – says Michał Dworczyk.
