"Protect children, support women" and "Vienna is pro-life" – with these slogans over 2,000 life defenders marched through Vienna on Saturday. The initiative was accompanied by acts of aggression from leftist communities.
Among the participants were politicians of the Austrian People's organization (ÖVP) Jan Ledóchowski and Caroline Hungerländer, as well as Bishop Franz Scharl of the Vienna Archdiocese and retired bishop of the Diocese of St. Pölten, Klaus Küng. – Every human being has a right to life. The life of the unborn counts. With this message, we went out on the streets today. Peaceful, loud and good atmosphere. It was not only a celebration of life, but besides a loud cry for justice and peace that begins in the womb. Abortion is the worst tragedy of our time – thousands of people present in Vienna have shown that they care about their mothers, children and young families said Felicity Trachta, president of the March for Life Association.
The slogan of the march: "The life of the unborn counts" #UnbornLivesMatter caused a stir even before his departure. The poster with this message was illegally cut and stolen by leftist extremists after they entered the church of St. Charles Boromeus (Karlkirche). However, life defenders shortly hung another banner.
The Antiphian militants, however, continued their attempts to destruct the March for Life and did not shun destroying property and endangering 3rd parties. The night before the demonstration for the right to life the terrorists destroyed the scene on which the next day the March for Life was to take place. The harm amounted to EUR 100 000.
In the run-up to the event, politicians of the Green organization of Meri Disoski and Veronica Spielmann sparked a scandal, calling for a violent counter protest. But in addition to the attacks with paint, scattered and masked activists had nothing to argue the activists pro-life.
– Once again 2 worlds collided today: 1 masked, screaming and disturbing peace, another pro-life, joyful and empathic. There's nothing more wonderful than being a pro-life! So many wonderful people with whom you can stand together to defend those who have no voice: unborn children – added Trachta.
Prior to the march through the city center, a rally was held at Karlsplatz. The initiator of the citizens' initiative #Fäirändern told her own story: "My abortion was the worst experience of my life." That is why she has set up a citizens' initiative that demands politicians to better support women and defend children.
Author Maria Schober talked about her fresh pro-life "Leonie", and Gabriela Huber of Youth for Life spoke of the initiator of the March for Life, Josef Büchsenmeister, who died that year in the accident: – He was a visionary, worked tirelessly to defend life, and planted many seeds that would sprout in the coming decades.
– Being pro-life means having a vision: We can truly be a pro-life generation! A generation of happy and free families, with prosperity through posterity, a planet where we understood something fundamental: that children are our future. A planet that cares about the weak and doesn't kill innocent children. A planet in which peace prevails – which begins in the womb. In which people aid each another and no human being should be killed— said presenter Ludwig Brühl during the rally.
At the end of St. Stephen's Square, participants even started dancing. The speakers sounded “We Love Life” and the slogan “Vienna is pro-lifeIt’s okay. ” Another March for Life will be held on October 4, 2025.
