Ewa Zajączkowska-Hernik in the European Parliament.
Poland has been helping since the beginning of the war Ukraine like no another country in the planet – accepting refugees, sending their military equipment, supporting Ukraine internationally. And yet we cannot even number on respect for historical fact and consent to the exhumation of victims of the Volyn massacre.
You can't build a good relation with silence. You gotta tell the truth. The Volyn massacre was a genocide by Ukrainians in 1943when Ukrainians murdered more than 100,000 Polish citizens in a beastly way.
Today Zelenski forbids us to talk about it. He's pleading, ungrateful and brazen.
Reconciliation should begin with the word: I'm sorry. No word “sorry”? There's no further backup. No exhumation? There's no further backup.
I do not believe in vague promises of dialog after the end of the war. We Poles We request the exhumation of victims of the Volyn massacre As long as the witnesses of this tragedy are inactive alive.
Not for vengeance, but for memory and fact call for sacrifice.
