Honourable judges and judges of the global Criminal Court!
When we learned in January of that year that the Court in which you are sitting decided to accept a case concerning the situation with Israel and Palestine, we took this message with comfort. Humanity needs an global Criminal Court that upholds the law and does not hesitate to consider the most serious charges of violating global law.
Today, October 7, 2024, 1 year after the beginning of the latest and most violent phase of the 76-year conflict between Israel and Palestine, we feel the request to address you directly. Not only due to the ongoing cruelty of what is happening present west of the Jordan River, but besides due to the dangerous precedent that will be established if the state's actions in times of conflict can go so far beyond the limits of the global consensus. Unless specified a violation meets the sanctions of a tribunal specified as the ICC, another countries will commit in the future War crimes with an even greater sense of impunity.
It is simply a clear fact present that the aim of the Israeli government is to systematically destruct all aspects of Palestinian life in Gaza. So far We've already observed:
– the most intense, as memory reaches, bombing densely populated urban areas;
– a full conscious effort to starve the population, not seen since planet War II;
– systematic demolition of medical facilities;
– unprecedented death toll among journalists and UN personnel.
The Israeli government is attacking schools, universities, libraries, archives, cultural centres, memorial sites, mosques and churches. He kills teachers and lecturers along with their students and frequently full families. Meanwhile, Israeli settlers—under the cover of the conflict in Gaza and under the protection of Israeli soldiers—remove Palestinians from the lands of their ancestors, openly violating all the principles of global law.
It is impossible to conclude that all of this is the work of the present government of Israel. The global community has no reason to anticipate Israel to follow global law after a possible change of power.
On 19 July 2024, the global Criminal Court ruled that the business of the West Bank of Jordan, the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem by Israel was unlawful. 5 days later, Kneset not only decided to disregard the ruling of the ICC (ratio of 65 votes to 9), but went even to provocation, recognizing the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem as part of the "earths of Israel". In evidence of contempt for global law and for the institutions that humanity after planet War II set up to defender this right, last Wednesday (2 October) the Israeli government banned the entry into the country of UN Secretary General António Guterres.
So here's the question: erstwhile can we anticipate the Court to press charges?
On October 7, the anniversary of the beginning of the most grim tragedy for which our generation will be liable before future generations. Today, more than ever, humanity needs a Court specified as the ICC in which impartial lawyers and lawyers from all over the planet can scope an agreement on standards of legal conduct during and after the war. Your Court's function is crucial. We powerfully urge you to act immediately.
