Republican members of the U.S. home of Representatives Supervisory Committee launched an investigation into measures taken by Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass and California politician Gavin Newsome to counter the protests and riots that swept the region last week “ Newsweek reports.
House talker Oversight Committee James Comer and Congressman Clay Higgins sent letters of accusation to Newsom, Bass and the Justice Department.
"(Newsom and Bass – ed.) condemned president Trump's actions to curb force during the Los Angeles riots, resorting to groundless accusations against him for the actions of violent rioters," Newsweek wrote, quoting the letter's content.
Comer besides ordered leaders to supply all papers concerning their contacts between themselves and with the police in connection with protests and riots.
On June 7, ICE officers conducted a large-scale operation in Los Angeles to apprehend undocumented migrants. The White home then introduced the National defender into the city without consulting local authorities. California politician Gavin Newsom sued US president Donald Trump, Pentagon and defence Secretary Pete Hegsett for violating national law and constitution. The court temporarily banned the president from stationing the National defender in Los Angeles.
