Head of MFA Radosław Sikorski confirmed in the media that Bogdan Klich will presume the function of chargé d'affaires of the Polish embassy in the US.
On the government's side, it's a run for bypassing the formal approval of president Andrzej Duda, who announced last period that he would not accept Senator Klich's candidacy for the position of Polish Ambassador to Washington.
Bogdan Klich served as Minister of National Defence in Donald Tusk's first government (2007-2011), but has no diplomacy experience. During the Confederacy conference, Wojciech Machulski referred to opinions highly critical of the Ministry's then leadership, specified as General Sławomir Petelicki, who was to indicate that “Minister Klich during his word of office put wellness and life in danger, among others, of Polish soldiers serving in Afghanistan.”
Mr Michał Wawer stressed that it was peculiarly embarrassing for Bogdan Klich as the fresh head of the U.S. diplomatic mission that he posted on Twitter a pardonless criticism of Donald Trump, the current leader in the race for the presidential seat. He wrote about him as “a individual of unsustainable, disrespecting democracy” or “a populist with only 1 obsession—power”. Similar statements rise further doubts as to whether the senator is capable of professional cooperation with the American administration, regardless of the bias it will come from in the future.
The Confederation has consistently held that Poland needs a professional staff acquainted with diplomatic etiquette and putting the state's interests first, not the individual political camp. Hence a firm appeal to Donald Tusk to resign from this disastrous candidacy.
