Some readers of the blog wonder about choosing a lesser evil in the second round. These doubts seem to me to be the consequence of 2 errors – underestimating the size of Evil in the form of Nawrocki, and overestimating it in the case of Trzaskowski.
I'll start with the Greater Evil. any of you may say, “PiS has already ruled and it has not been so bad.”
That it will not be the same Law and Justice as before – gives us an example of Trump, from which the world's right is inspired. During his first term, he did not go to mass deportations, threatening invasions of Canada or Greenland, stopping aid to Ukraine. In wellness issues, he listened to professionals, not anti-vaccination lunatics. He respected university autonomy and at least the letter of law.
In Poland, 3rd governments of the Law and Justice will look similar. If you think you have a safe niche in which you will be unmoveable, you will be as amazed as the Americans who refused to vote for Harris, “because they did nothing to halt the genocide in Gaza”.
You feel safe due to the fact that you work at a college? fresh Law and Justice will destruct the University of Warsaw, just as Trump destroys Harvard. You work in an global corporation? They will retreat from Poland, ruled by unrestrained populists. You work in culture, in the media, in municipal government, in NGO? They will get you and there, they will rush the local government and bring in the commercial power, they will ban the activities of the disobedient NGOs, they will raid editorials, theatres and cultural houses until they are forced by Selbstgleichschaltung.
Duda was what he was, but he was holding back the more utmost ideas of his camp. We can partially imagine the fresh Laws, which he vetoed. This was, for example, Lex Czarnek, a bill giving the curators (in practice: minister) the chance to manually appoint the school directorate, including private ones. Then you can't hide a kid from a mandatory mass for the soldiers cursed.
You think if you're rich gay like Krystian Legierski, you don't care? They can do something to anyone, like cross him off the list of lawyers. They can take distant my teaching privileges. Power can be a lot, Americans discover it all day now.
What about Trzaskovsky as a lesser evil? Let me start by saying that Warsaw is simply a mostly pleasant city. If individual lives outside her and imagines her on the basis of social media, they may have any kind of Sin City vision, but nothing more wrong.
Of course, it besides pisses me off that everything happens besides slow and not enough. I would like more metro and trams, more bike paths, more fresh parks – but it's already rather fun compared to what was in the PiS rule.
Who knows Warsaw only from the media, has surely heard of a completely unnecessary foot-and-row footbridge. It's very useless due to the fact that there's specified a crowd on it that you can't drive a bike fast.
Of course, who truly rides a bike in Warsaw knows that on boulevards it is impossible to drive quickly. There is expected to be a route, but there are signs and inscriptions on the sidewalk “SLOW, WATCH ON THE SOUNDS”. So even if you build a peculiar footbridge next to it only for cyclists beating records, they will fall into this Nadislan crowd.
We usually hear about these unnecessary footbridges, trams and metro lines from alleged "activists", about which I have doubts whether they even decision around Warsaw. The best evidence of them is that they are now fighting electrical boxes, which are said to be besides much, and this is simply a disfigurement of the urban landscape. The city where there are specified problems is simply a city without problems (in the 1990s, man did not number boxes, he was looking for threats).
Trzaskowski is criticized for having no opinions but trying to get along with everyone. It's true, and I'd like to express the left-wing president, too, but the centre president, what's that for a beer with a driver's license, and for a left-wing comedian, isn't the biggest evil yet. This is not the second Chirac-Le Pen tour the French erstwhile had.
Nawrockie won't want to get along with us, dear lefties. He represents the political force that our place sees in the camps. If individual thinks I'm exaggerating, look at the US, where Trump is already talking about the formal ‘suspension of habeas corpus’, and without that, habeas corpus is already a fiction, since they can consider everyone as an illegal immigrant and thus deprive them of the right to trial (i.e. to prove themselves not to be an illegal immigrant). But Kamala Harris wasn't clear enough...
