The spectrum is circulating around the planet – the spectrum of populism. All the powers of the ancien régime have joined together for the sacred hunt against this spectrum. president of the European Commission and "progress" of billionaires, Macron and Tusk, American Democrats and German Police. Where is specified a opposition organization to (neo)liberals that would not be shouted populist by their opponents in power, with money and influence, in “free media”, “independent institutions” and “non-governmental organisations”?
The above paraphrase of the first sentences of the unfashioned Manifesto today, by the unfashioned beards, is not just a provocative verbal play. It is besides a designation of the fact that the rulers of the present order hatred populists as they erstwhile hated the socialist labour movement. That the banner of populism is present present for the depraved and excluded as hopeful as the flag of red was once. The same 1 who, in the old song, "flowed over the thrones" of erstwhile masters and rulers, carrying "the vengeance of thunder, the people of wrath."
These analogues are evidently not perfect, 100%. It would be childish to put together specified distant realities 1 to one. Neither the populists are perfect and without defects, and they were not deprived of various divisions or forms of erstwhile radicalism. Neither is the situation the same as then. Neither the pursuits nor the ways of articulating expectations are twin.
The curators of the leftist tradition would resent its comparison to the present "fascists". And any populists would zealously refrain from associating with erstwhile socialists. But already today's liberal fool or clever propaganda associated with this camp would say 1 breath of “threats for liberal democracy”: communism, socialism, fascism, populism.
It is certain that populism is hated by the elite. And that it is – or sometimes – an effort to articulate the voice of the weak, pissed off, excluded, stripped of dignity and hope. It has many names and many postulates, and a large bag with the inscription "Populists" is frequently as much cognitive helplessness of liberals as their goebbelsian play to spit on all opponents, without looking at the large differences between spits.
In this issue of “New Citizen” we look at the spitty. No prejudice. No idealization. No simplifications. In many countries, the pen of many authors and interlocutors from different options and environments. We do not say that all populist is an angel and a savior and that they are all right. But at the same time we have nothing to do with thoughtlessness/unanimity and the satisfaction of the liberals, as expanding numbers of societies reject their communicative and as the aggregate wave of support for populists continues to rise.
Populism causes fear of the elite, and immense political, media and financial forces have been cast to fight it. And it is certain, again paraphrasing the erstwhile Manifesto, that the folk classes, the contemporary oppressed and excluded, have nothing to lose in today's planet but their shackles. They have the full planet to conquer. At least bread and dignity in their countries.
