The influential British think tank Chatham home points out that this year's parliamentary elections in the Islands will address "more than usual" abroad policy issues. He adds that “in just a week, there were 3 crucial speeches on the abroad policy of the government (premier and minister of abroad affairs) and the Labuszist opposition (minister of abroad shadow cabinet).

Both parties adopt a pragmatic approach. This was besides recommended by the think tank in a paper entitled "Three abroad policy priorities for the next UK government".

Referring to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's speech, Chatham home recalls the fact that national security, energy and wider economical safety are now crucial. Sunak believes that only the Conservative organization can take good care of them.

In terms of detail, however, conservatives do not disagree from labourists. Both major parties consider it a precedence to give full support to Ukraine, a cautious approach to China and to support Israel's right to self-defence, while criticizing the consequences of Jews' actions in Gaza.

The top differences concern policies towards Rwanda (the issue of the return of illegal immigrants) and Europe. However, both the current British abroad Minister David Cameron and the abroad minister of the shadow cabinet David Lammy place emphasis on realism as to the anticipation of maintaining British influences in the world.

Think tank recommends the future ruling squad to organize relations with the US and China. Regardless of the U.S. election results, the British should "based on historical ties, but not promise or anticipate besides much, and besides plan to respond to likely higher duties and possibly more skepticism towards NATO".

Think tank predicts that negotiating a free trade agreement is improbable and should so be based on "narrow military and critical technology agreements and sectoral partnerships".

In the case of China, more emphasis should be placed on balancing trade and self-defense and developing strengths in the field of fresh technologies and communication.

The British should make links with the EU and a broader Europe. Strong support for Ukraine should be maintained and safety cooperation improved. Greater participation in the EU military cooperation programme – PESCO – and the conclusion of an administrative agreement with the European Defence Agency are suggested.

A 3rd crucial precedence is simply a realistic assessment of the possible of the UK impact through greater and more coherent participation in global governance. This is crucial that the UK, like another North countries, will gotta face “a more assertive Global South and a more influential and activist group of another medium-sized powers”.

The British are besides to devote much more resources to defence, improvement and diplomacy. There is talk of the request to spend at least 3% of GDP on arms and 0.7% on improvement aid (ODA), which goes abroad.

Either way, Britain must prepare for the consequences of US, China and competition policies from more emerging powers, with limited economical opportunities.
