Position of the Parliamentary Group for Life and household and Parliamentary Group for the Protection of the Life and wellness of Poles

As a consequence of the gathering on 18 December 2024 on the draft regulation of the Ministry of National Education, concerning the liquidation of the optional subject ‘Rescue for household Life’ and the introduction of the mandatory ‘Health Education’, parliamentary teams adopted the following position:

The intention to remove the subject “Rescue to household Life” from schools is unfounded. The Regulation does not give any reasons for its elimination. It is all the more incomprehensible that the investigation conducted positively assessed its programming basis and the impact on the attitudes of the students. We believe that the fresh MEN task means depriorizing the function of the household in the state and society, which is contrary to Articles 18, 71 and 72 of the Polish Constitution, which states that the household is the foundation of a well-functioning and serving the citizens of the state.

We powerfully object to the liquidation of the subject of the “Bringing up for life in the family” which has been present in Polish schools for 25 years and implemented with the approval of parents. It has a well-prepared staff of teachers, developed methodology and textbooks. It besides enjoys social acceptance.

  1. The analysis of the draft MEN Regulation, which introduces the subject of wellness Education, places the emphasis on the isolation of the student from his natural household environment, which is profoundly contrary to his welfare and destructive to society. These classes are to be compulsory without taking into account the will of parents, which violates Article 48 of the Polish Constitution. We besides express concerns about the programme basis of the planned subject "Health Education" due to controversial content in sexual education in the section "Sex Health".
  2. We point out that the unjustified removal of the "Bringing up for life in a family" and the introduction of a fresh controversial subject, "Health Education", which already raises opposition from many parents and teachers today, strikes specified a essential cooperation between parents and the school, leads to conflicts and, as a result, negative consequences for the intellectual wellness of children and young people.

Therefore, we request that the proposed regulation of the Ministry of National Education be rejected.

At the same time, we are in favour of complementing subjects: biology, upbringing for household life or physical education, and another applicable elements of wellness education that have not previously been included in these subjects' programmes.
