About 50,000 people protested the war in the German capital of Berlin on Saturday. The organizers of the demonstration included Sahra Wagenknecht (Die Linke), Oskar Lafontaine, Alice Schwarzer and many others.
"We call on the Chancellor of Germany to halt the escalation of arms supplies. Now!. For all lost day costs even a 1000 lives – and brings us closer to planet War III" – the organizers wrote on their website.
The banners featured the slogans: “Not for War”, “Americans for Home”, “Solution NATO”, “No More Hiroshima and Nagasaki”, “Dialogue No War” or “War-Stop”
According to a poll commissioned by DPA on 21-23 February, the majority due to the fact that 51 percent of Germans considered that arming Ukraine meant their country's indirect participation in the war. 37 percent of respondents disagreed.
