Tuesday's sittings of the Sejm were to cover Donald Tusk's exposé. Unfortunately, the subject of the evening news must have been the anti-Semitic act by Grzegorz Braun.
The media from around the planet are following what happens in Poland after the 15 October elections. In fresh days they study the fall of the government of Mateusz Morawiecki, then the election of Donald Tusk as Prime Minister. Congratulations come from politicians and commentators. Here we have shown – with a sharp paraphrase of the narration – that we can halt the wave of populism and authoritarianism, and this in democratic elections. We've got the advanced turnout first, and now millions of people are watching the session of the Sejm, but in cinemas they're sitting and watching speeches and voting in parliament with popcorn.
Meanwhile, this full spectacle of democracy has just been covered by MP Braun, who extinguished the Khanu candles lit in the Parliament building with a fire extinguisher powder shot in the face of the female who tried to halt it. Magdalena Gudzińska-Adamczyk, a doctor who was in the parliament at the ceremony, got hit because, as she says, she is simply a doctor, ran up due to the fact that she thought individual needed help.
When Mr Witold Zembaczyński reported on what had just happened in the corridor, Braun entered the platform and talked about "acts of racist tribal, wild, Talmudic cult". He added something about Satanism and then called for theological discussion.
Marshal Holovnia responded immediately. He took the lead from Krzysztof Bosak and excluded Mr Braun from the session of the Sejm. The Bureau punished Braun with taking his diet and salary, and the law firm will mention the application to the prosecution. Braun's actions condemned all sides. Even the Confederate on X wrote: "The Confederate's Membership Club condemns the behaviour of Grzegorz Braun". I'm not gonna tell them to make a move.
But the milk spilled. The planet saw an anti-Semitic attack, and in the morning they will compose all major newspapers about it. The images are actually spectacular: the fire extinguisher powder filling the seismic corridor is the image that the media around the planet is presently taking.
Perhaps abroad they will be amazed that, as in Poland, which has just impressed the maturity of democracy, specified feats?
Those who say that we have a problem with anti-Semitism in Poland for years are not surprised. Those and those who have been paying attention to Braun's shameful actions for years are not surprised. I urge lyrics Oh, my God., Irena Grudzińska is Witkowski's Speech.
The Law and Justice is turning it around now. He says that most of the parliament wants to usage Braun's scandalous behaviour to take distant Members' MPs and Members' chance to finish asking questions to Donald Tusk. Everyone wants to play something for themselves. That's what politics looks like.
We will hear that Braun's leap is simply a shame that we have presented ourselves so poorly to the planet – but maybe, alternatively of worrying about what the “world” will think about us, let us take over what we know about ourselves? alternatively of reasoning it's a shame, that now in the Guardian, they're going to compose that Poles are anti-Semites, let's think about whether the real shame is that we care so much about what they write, and for years we didn't care what Braun did.
When Braun – besides as MP – interrupted lecture by Prof. Jan Grabowski at the German Historical Institute entitled Polish (growing) problem with the past of the Holocaust What was the consequences? None.
Braun's behaviour needs to be taken to the chest. It's time. And it's not adequate to apologize for Braun. You gotta punish all anti-Semitic prank, all anti-Semitic appearance, all writing on the wall, social media entry, YouTube video. No tolerance.
It's good that in 1 election we managed to overcome populism. Now it's time to face anti-Semitism. Seriously. Don't sweep under the carpet, don't pretend it's just 1 of Braun's pranks, to which the Sejm responded rapidly and the case was settled. The milk spilled, the planet found out, not the first time. We must fight anti-Semitism effectively. due to the fact that Braun and his kind won't cool off. They won't shut up.
