Alaksandr Lukashenka commented on the Polish justice Tomasz Szmydt's escape to Belarus. He stated that Szmydt would receive protection, referring to the case of deserter Emil Częczko, a Polish soldier who fled to Belarus in 2021 and, according to an independent, Zierkało portal.

In a communication published late Thursday evening by his press service, Lukashenko called Szmydt “a average patriotic Pole”, who “is no traitor”. He besides rejected as “complete nonsense” the claim that Belarus and Russia recruit people in the West.

– But it is simply a blow to the interlock (...) for the Polish authorities. That's why they start saying it's a traitor, and so on. said Lukashenko. According to him, the escaped justice "realistly looks at matters, compares Poland and Belarus and draws conclusions".

The president of Belarus referred to the case of Tomasz Szmydt, matching it with the case of Polish soldier Emil Częczek, who fled to Belarus. Hi, after a short period of many speeches in the propaganda media of Belarus, he abruptly disappeared from public space, and later, according to information from the Belarusian authorities, committed suicide by hanging. Lukashenko now claims that "Hit was killed".

The president suggests that Szmydt may be in danger and stated that he ordered him to be protected, “so that these bastards do not kill a man.” He besides said that Vladimir Putin had taken an interest in the matter, and everyone noticed its meaning, “because it is specified a blow to the interlock.”

– For Belarusian propaganda Szmydt is simply a gift and Lukashenko uses it “In turn, he assessed Belarusian political scientist Waler Karbalewicz in an interview with PAP. In his opinion, the point is that the case of the judge's escape should be noticed by all and utilized as propaganda as possible.

For propaganda, it's a real gift. People from Belarus flee massively for political reasons, and Lukashenko may convince that here are escapes from the West too. That there is “no freedom of speech either, and for views there are repression.” These are the main thesis of Belarusian propaganda. Like the claim that in the West “people are good, only authorities are bad” – Karbalewicz said.

He besides added that “the society of Belarus is heavy divided, supporters of Lukashenko will believe it, while his opponents will not”.

This effect is large but short-lived – it is simply a bomb effect. In time, it will weaken and halt being interesting. In Odessa, it is said that the same gag heard twice is not funny. It is akin in this case said the political scientist.

Judge of the 2nd Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw, Tomasz Szmydt, formally on leave from April 22 to May 10, appeared on Monday at a press conference in Minsk. Belarusian State press agency Belta reported that it had asked the Belarusian authorities for “care and protection”. Szmydt announced that he was resigning from his current position in the WSA “with immediate effect”.

He then began appearing in the Belarusian and Russian media, repeating the thesis of their propaganda and presenting himself as a victim of repression for his views.

The National Prosecutor's Office shall carry out investigations to “direct” espionage. Earlier, in December 2021, a elder Private Emil Czczko fled to Belarus, who served as a soldier of the Polish Army on the Polish-Belarusian border. In mid-March 2022, he was found dead in Minsk.
