Sex education under the guise of wellness science. Barbara Nowacka announces the introduction of a fresh subject

Minister of Education Barbara Nowacka announced the introduction of a fresh subject named wellness education since September. According to the authoritative position of the MEN, the introduction of fresh classes is intended to supply students with education in the field of wellness prevention. However, the actual effect of introducing a fresh subject will be the introduction of compulsory sex education into schools.

In April 2024, during a joint press conference of education, athletics and tourism ministers and health, Minister of Education Barbara Nowacka announced the introduction of a subject to Polish schools called wellness education, which is intended to replace classes of education for household life (WEDZ). The subject is to be implemented in grades IV-VIII of primary schools and in secondary schools.

Barbara Nowack's request to introduce a fresh subject justified that education in the field of wellness care and prevention should be started at school age. Otherwise, society will become increasingly unaware of how to prevent diseases, how to counter the effects of deficiency of movement or how to respond in crisis situations.

However, the analysis of the current basis for general education shows that issues in the field of wellness education are present in the Polish education strategy already today, starting with pre-school education. They are discussed more extensively at further stages of education, both in primary school in grades I-III and IV-VIII, as well as in secondary schools. These issues are addressed on subjects specified as biology, nature, chemistry, physical education, safety education and household education.

The subject of sexuality is besides discussed in the HED classes. Among the main functions of sexuality are, among others, the expression of love, the building of bonds and parenthood, common assistance and complementation, integral and complementary sex cooperation.

The accents are completely different in the model of sexual education, towards which the present MEN authorities are inclined. This model refers to publications on this subject, including the planet wellness Organization. The main function of sexuality, unlike in WEDZ classes, is brought there to supply pleasure, with sexual initiation, according to supporters of this model, no request to wait to scope adulthood or to enter into a lasting relationship.

The second leading context of this model of education is "security" as regards protection against sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy. A remediation of these “risks” is to be a widespread access to contraceptives, a pill “day after” and a “safe abortion”.

Another component of sexual education, which can be expected in wellness education classes, is anti-discrimination education. It is simply a de facto promotion of the extremist demands of the LGBT lobby, including those concerning alleged homosexual marriages and the adoption of children by single-sex couples.

Importantly, with the entry into the schools of compulsory wellness education classes, voluntary training classes for household life are to disappear.

Until now, the parent may have objected to the participation of his kid in the EGM classes. Now power, through a state apparatus, wants to take distant the right of parents to rise their children according to their own beliefs, in a sphere as delicate as sexuality. This is no uncertainty an effort on the constitutionally guaranteed rule of parenting priority Marek Puzio, elder analyst of the Ordo Iuris Institute, points out.

According to MEN's announcements, the task of the programming basis of the fresh subject – wellness education, is scheduled to appear in the autumn of this year, and the subject would enter schools from 1 September 2025.
