According to Polish police data, in 2022 more than 2,500 people died on Polish roads. That means that about 7 people are killed all day on our roads. Road safety is not only a substance of compliance with traffic rules, but besides of education and awareness of drivers.
In the event of an accident on the Wisłostrada, the perpetrator tried to escape the scene, but the police took it. He was accused, including causing a fatal accident and violating the driving ban. It's not the only case where the unsub tried to escape the scene. According to police records, in 2022, more than 10% of the perpetrators attempted to escape the scene.
The prosecution besides takes specified cases very seriously. A spokesperson for the territory Attorney's Office in Warsaw, Proc. Piotr Antoni Skiba, reported that 2 men active in the case were reported in connection with the conduct of the proceedings. 1 of them, David F., heard the charge of causing a fatal accident_ related to the escape from the scene_, as well as of imposing a ban on driving_, which was ruled by the Radom court last year.
According to available data, David F. is 23 years old and is facing imprisonment from 5 to 20 years. The second of the men, a 37-year-old, heard the charge of not granting aid, which would put him in prison for 3 years.
Both suspects confessed to their alleged actions and gave extended explanations. Prosecutor Skiba stressed that, given the circumstances, he had decided to address requests for provisional arrest for a period of 3 months against both suspects.
It is besides worth noting that road accidents not only cost people their lives, but besides immense amounts of money. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, in 2022 the costs of road accidents in Poland amounted to over PLN 10 billion. This means that all day, road accidents cost our economy about PLN 27 million.
Therefore, it is very crucial that we all respect traffic rules and be aware of the dangers that lie on our roads. Road safety is not only a substance of individual responsibility, but besides of shared concern for the wellness and life of our loved ones.
