Galloping inflation and constantly rising prices make the wallets of Poles from 1 period to the next lighter. regular food shopping, which has been a regular spending even recently, is now 1 of the biggest burdens on home budgets. But do we pay the same in all store? Can choosing the right trading network truly affect our savings? Our squad of analysts decided to check it out. In January 2025 we conducted a detailed price survey in the most popular supermarkets in Poland. The results are clear and can be shocking for many. The difference in the price of the same basket of basic products between the cheapest and the most costly commercial network in Poland exceeds PLN 120! This is an amount that can translate into a fewer 100 gold savings per month. In our article, we examine prices in detail, point to leaders and losers of this ranking, and propose how to plan buying wisely so as not to overpay.

Methodology of our study: What have we put in the basket?

To make our comparison as reliable and reliable as possible, we created a standard buying basket, consisting of 25 basic products, which regularly land in carts of millions of Poles. We focused on articles from different categories to reflect typical weekly purchases. In the case of branded products, we chose the same positions, and where it was impossible, we reached for the cheapest available equivalents of our own brands of akin weight and quality. The prices were collected the same week in shops located in cities over 200 000 inhabitants, with the exception of temporary, one-day promotions.

Our analytical basket includes:

  • Dairy: Milk 3.2% (1l), extra butter (200g), yellow Gouda cheese in slices (150g), country cheese (200g), bedding eggs (10 pcs).
  • Bread and bulk products: Balton bread (500g), bagel rolls (5 pcs), wheat flour kind 500 (1kg), white sugar (1kg), spaghetti pasta (500g).
  • Meat and meats: Chicken breast fillet (1kg), Boneless pork (1kg), Silesian sausage (500g).
  • Vegetables and fruit: Potatoes (1kg), tomatoes (1kg), onions (1kg), apples (1kg), bananas (1kg).
  • Other: Rape oil (1l), ground coffee (250g), black tea (100 bags), ungasted mineral water (1.5l), milk chocolate (100g), toilet paper (8 rolls).

The leader is one. Where do purchases cost at least in 2025?

After summing up the prices of all 25 products from our basket, the price ranking for the beginning of 2025 is highly interesting. According to our study, it turned out to be priceless Auchan. It was in this French hypermarket that we paid the least – PLN 348,50. The network has been celebrated for its aggressive pricing policy, wide scope and frequent promotions for its own brand products with red bird, which is reflected in our list.

Little more expensive, but inactive on the podium, placed Ladybug. Basket in the most popular discont in Poland cost PLN 359,20. This proves that the "low regular prices" strategy continues to deliver results and that the network is effectively fighting to be the cheapest on the market, especially in terms of basic food products. 3rd place, with a tiny failure to Ladybug, took LidlWhere we would pay for the same buying PLN 365.80.

Outside the podium, but inactive with comparatively competitive prices, Kaufland, with a basket of value PLN 389,40. The difference with the leader, however, is already clearly felt. However, the real price gap appears erstwhile we look at the end of our ranking. On the second price pole Carrefour Hypermarketwhere the same product set has cost PLN 469,80. This means that the difference between the cheapest Auchan and the most costly Carrefour is shocking PLN 121,30Oh, my God! By regularly buying in a more costly store, we can lose over 1,400 PLN per year.

Strategy matters. How to save on buying all day?

The conscious choice of the store is absolutely essential, but that is not all. To maximize savings, it is worth implementing any simple habits. First of all, use loyalty applications. They offer personalised coupons and additional discounts that are frequently not available to another customers. Secondly, plan meals and store with the list. It's the easiest way to avoid impulsive purchases and wasting food. Third, be flexible. Sometimes it pays to buy meat in 1 store, and business chemistry in another. analyse promotional newspapers and hunt for occasions. Don't be afraid, too. own brands – their quality has increased importantly in fresh years, and the price is frequently 20-30% lower than in the case of branded counterparts.

The choice of the cheapest store based on our ranking is the first but crucial step towards real savings. The difference of over 120 PLN on 1 buying basket clearly shows that where we put products in the trolley is of large importance for our wallet. At a time of advanced inflation, all money saved is simply a goldweight, and a conscious and strategical approach to buying is no longer a fanbabby, but an economical necessity.
