Prime Minister Tusk is demanding elections. Will there be a peculiar investigation team?

dailyblitz.de 2 months ago

Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that he would ask lawyer General Adam Bodnar to take decisive action on irregularities during the presidential election. Nor does it exclude the creation of a peculiar investigation team.

During his visit to MESKO S.A., the head of government referred to controversy related to the recalculation of votes in the 2nd circular of the presidential election of 1 June. In fresh days, among others, Roman Gierty and Lech Wałęsa have demanded the annulment of the elections, and the ultimate Court has allowed the results to be re-checked in 13 regional electoral committees.

Tusk: ‘The Polish state must not underestimate any signals’

Recalculation of votes where there have been clear abuses or manifest errors, and no 1 is questioning that, is the only sensible decision said the Prime Minister.

People frequently ask, Mr. Tusk, why don't you number the votes, cancel the election? We all should be serious. There are institutions that are called, and this is not a government – he added.

At the same time, he announced that he would press the lawyer General to make this "he did not hesitate to take action, possibly even to form a peculiar team" on possible election fraud offences.

Not due to the fact that my intention is to overturn the result of the elections, but the Polish state must not underestimate any signal that there was falsification, abuse, bad will, simple inability. All this should be checked out. – he noted.

Petition to recalculate the votes. Over 290 000 signatures

There have been reports of irregularities in vote counting in the media for respective days. The loudest case concerns the committee in Krakow, where the votes cast on Karol Nawrocki and Rafał Trzaskowski were wrongly attributed. A akin situation occurred in Minsk Mazowiecki.

In consequence to these reports, a petition was created demanding a recalculation of all votes. Its authors indicate that "Statistically, the results recorded in more than 3000 electoral committees disagree importantly from the standards and may indicate errors or intentional manipulations".

In addition, in the petition's text there were allegations concerning "an illegal application on the basis of which certain premises were illegally refused to issue ballot cards". More than 292,000 people have already signed the paper (as of Thursday, 3:30 p.m.).

What about the election? Decision in the hands of prosecutors and courts

The case could be put on trial, especially if the D.A. had initiated an investigation into possible election crimes. In the past, the jurisprudence of the courts, including the Constitutional Court, has indicated that a breach of electoral procedures may constitute grounds for invalidating the results in utmost cases.

Is there going to be serious changes this time? Everything depends on the results of the audit and the possible actions of the prosecution.
