Protection of Pope Worship Act

I'll start with half a joke, half a joke. In 1938, the Sejm passed the Act "On the Protection of the Worship of the Warden". The point was that for saying something negative about Józef Piłsudski, you could go to prison. It was a peculiar quintessence of the regulation of sanation and the culmination of the sticky idol from Piłsudski.

The current atmosphere around defending the good name of Pope John Paul II begins to odor similar. The Law and Justice as a copycat of the Sanction is capable of doing so. The elements introduced in the state media, for example, "protection of the Pope's cult" are very akin to what the sanitation was doing. Still, I hope they don't decide to hurt Charles Wojtyla so much.

I bet that the deep origin of the current conflict around action Wojtyla, while inactive a cardinal, is the political success of the Catholic Church. This success, passing in the 1990s in the triumph, began with the date of the Cardinal's election The war on the Pope. And now I justify it.

Furthermore, the Church's attitude dominated the belief that the Church must be protected above all else as an institution, due to the fact that the threat of its disintegration or submission to the communist regulation was real. The endurance of the Church as an independent institution had to be defended at all costs. But primate Stefan Wyszyński was imprisoned for respective years. And for specified acts, Wyszyński and Wojtyla deserve the name of a statesman. That is how heroism was understood in the attitude of the clergy. Under these circumstances, the case of victims of pedophiles priests simply did not exist. After all, she could successfully become an effective pretext for attacking the Church. I stress that this is not my excuse, but my explanation to realize all the realities.

And so the Church continued, survived, and since the election of the Cardinal The war on the Pope began to win. He grew as an institution, powerful as a moral force, but in the same degree as a political force. The fall of the PRL was the triumph of the Church. The view that the moral strength of the Church has begun to decline since then may be put at risk, and that its political strength has continued to grow. The atmosphere of triumph, the sense of power did not prompt consideration of the interior situation in the structures of the Church. The problems of homosexuality or pedophilia were dealt with as in PRL. And these problems grew, they swelled up, and the public became increasingly aware of them. The Church as an institution, and especially a hierarchy, was completely helpless, passive and did not seem to realize the danger of revealing these problems. And they became an effective weapon in the fight against the Church, both as an institution preaching certain moral teaching and an institution influencing and shaping political realities.
At this point, in the dispute over Karol Wojtyla's attitude, which is so far the main issue in Polish public life, The church doesn't stand a chance. The minimum part of curious people understands the circumstances and force under which Cardinal Wojtyła acted during the years of the Polish People's Republic. After so many organization developments of the Church not only in Poland, after so many compromises of different hierarchs, fewer people will consider that the endurance of the Church as an independent institution respective decades ago was a fundamental substance not only for the Church, but besides for future free Poland. Who present will even let the church leaders to consider the dramatic choice of any lesser evil and be easy to justice from today’s perspective?

Today, for the vast majority of the public, it is understood that individual people, especially children, are harmed, and it is believed that the Church is to defend them. That's what they talk about, that's what's out there, that's what's in the consciousness. The church with a defender of fundamental values with freedom at the head, became the main suspect and either very weak or even incapable to defend itself at all, so it loses. He loses mainly as an institution he believes is no longer essential to carry out his mission, but is simply a place of various abuses. The Church, as an institution with its hierarchy, has a part in making the idol of John Paul II. The Pope was made a symbol of political triumph and dominance. Unfortunately, I have the impression that as long as Karol Wojtyła is simply a political weapon, a symbol and anything else politically utilized will benefit from attempts to defend him, and at most they will end up with any act on "Protection of the Worship of John Paul II".
