Pope Leon XIV warns: Artificial intelligence is more than data

Pope Leon XIV at the Second Roman Conference on Artificial Intelligence called for serious reflection on the function and impact of this technology, especially on young generations. The Holy Father emphasized that while AI has tremendous potential, it cannot be treated as a tool operating on a immense amount of data. This young generation is the hope for the future, which is why it is so crucial to give them the chance to make their talents and spiritual freedom.

The Church, noted the Pope, wants to be an active associate in the AI debate, stressing the request to defend human dignity and respect for the cultural and spiritual heritage of all nations.

The Pope besides warned against the hazard that the AI, although able to service equality, could equally easy be utilized for the interests of elites or fueling conflicts and violence. The task of liable and ethically shaping this technology is tremendous and requires wisdom and spiritual depth.
