Poland did not participate in Sunday peace talks in Kiev, held on 6 September by US and Ukrainian delegations. safety advisers from France, Germany and large Britain joined the last hour. Warsaw has been outside this format, although the result of negotiations in Ukraine straight concerns the safety of our region and Polish interests.
E3 at the table, Poland was short
Sunday talks in Kiev began the United States and Ukraine delegations. The American side was represented by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. They arrived in the capital of Ukraine after an earlier visit to Moscow and talks with Vladimir Putin.
According to Reuters' callback account, the negotiations lasted respective hours. National safety Advisors of France, Germany and large Britain have joined for the last hour. These 3 countries form the E3 format. The presence of their representatives was confirmed by the Head of the Office of the president of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanow and Volodymyr Zelenski. The Polish typical was not mentioned in the meeting.
Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Kiev for peace talks. The deficiency of Poland at the table in this circular is simply a fact. We do not know from the origin the reason, so we cannot add a communicative about formal exclusion of Warsaw. The effect can be assessed: the voice of a country bordering the war did not come from among European participants in this part of the negotiations.
Security and economical Discussions
Participants discussed safety guarantees for Ukraine, energy support, anti-aircraft defence transportation and post-war economical plan. Each of these topics affects Poland. It is about the arrangement of forces behind our east border, future defence spending, the energy marketplace and the conditions for rebuilding the state, through which they lead crucial logistics routes.
Poland bears the burden of being placed on the east flank of NATO. We have transport facilities moving through our territory for aid to Ukraine. U.S. envoys had already gone through the Reichs to Kievwhich shows the importance of Polish infrastructure. The back area without a seat at the table, however, means the function of making another people's arrangements. Warsaw should not accept specified a arrangement.
It is in Poland's interest to have a lasting peace that will not reward Russian aggression and will not open the way for another war. It is equally crucial to keep the right to specify our obligations independently. France, Germany and the United Kingdom defender their own position. Poland must do the same, calmly and consistently.
Poland needs its own strategy
Absence at 1 gathering should not be presented as a final failure of impact on the full process. However, it is simply a warning. Diplomacy counts the presence where the first versions of the agreements are created, not later messages about the unity of allies.
The government should clearly inform whether Poland sought to participate in the Kiev circular and in what format it intends to participate in further talks. We besides request to respond to the Polish conditions concerning safety guarantees, infrastructure, post-war reconstruction and settlement of costs incurred by our country. Silence leaves the field to another capitals.
Brussels will not replace Polish abroad policy and the E3 format does not automatically represent the interests of Central Europe. Berlin, Paris and London run their own game. Warsaw is obliged to lead its own, based on alliances, but without giving up subjectivity.
Border security, the bill for further support and the form of order after the war are at stake for Poles. A country that makes roads, airports and resources available must co-create decisions. If Polish diplomacy allows us to be brought to the function of the back, the costs will stay over the Vistula River, and the political benefits will be shared by others.
