By decision of the Minister of Culture Hanna Wróblewski, Robert Kostro - since 2006 forming the foundations of the Museum of Polish past – said goodbye to the function of the manager of this institution. The smoke caused quite a few criticism. The work of the current head of the task by many was a very affirmative assessment, and the reasons for the appeal seem insignificant. His place will be taken by left-wing publicist, Dr. Marcin Napiórkowski.
The erstwhile manager of the institution has been in charge of it for 18 years. He was the originator and admin of the construction task for the permanent exhibition to be completed soon, says muzzp.pl.
Robert Kostro's activities met with many affirmative comments. The task of the permanent exhibition was discussed as an effort to present a 1000 years of Polish past in a reliable and unspeakable political content. The dismissal of the manager was criticised even in the pages of “Gazeta Wyborcza” sympathetic with the government by Prof. Paweł Machcewicz. The letter in his defence was signed by representatives of various backgrounds.
Roberto Kostro himself, especially in the 1980s and 1990s, was associated with conservative environments. As he pointed out, however, he did not make a museum to correspond to the values he was guided to, and to scope all visitors. During his activities, he worked with various staff, including those appointed by erstwhile PO governments and was able to find a common language with them.
The authoritative reason for the dismissal is expected to be a defect in the management of the institution. Among another things, the deficiency of resources and legal dispute with the task contractor, Budimex. As Robert Kostro emphasized, these allegations are poorly supported. The measures provided by the State were issued late in justified situations, erstwhile the builders performed the work after the deadline or erstwhile the receipt of their projects was impossible due to defects identified by the inspectors. The erstwhile manager is going to mention the case to court.
– (...) The dispute is mainly due to delays due to the contractor. For example, the issue of roof construction is simply a disputed subject – it took us almost a year. I don't see my work for this delay. – said the retired manager in a conversation with the portal rp.pl.
As Kostro announced, he intends to appeal the decision of the Minister of Culture to the labour court. However, he does not intend to apply for a occupation return, but for compensation. – Good communication with the Ministry is simply necessary – explained in an interview with rp.pl portal. – You can't make specified a large investment against the minister's will you gotta have full confidence – explained the deficiency of intention to fight the legal conflict for reinstatement.
In place of an experienced museumist, the author of the warmly accepted permanent exhibition, the ministry appointed Dr. Marcin Napiórkowski. He is simply a left-wing publicist whose texts regularly appear in the utmost "Political Critic". The Nominat Hanna Wróblewski wrote negative texts about any right-wing movements. He is besides the author of respective books, including the entry “Turbopatriotism”.
The outgoing manager expressed hope during the interview given to the “Rzeczpospolita” that the spirit of impartiality to be presented by the permanent exhibition would not endure with the change of position. In his first talks after the resignation, the predecessor Napiórkowski assured that he appreciated his work and would open the museum building with him.
