The CBOS polling studio asked Poles what their attitude towards different nationalities was. The most liked are Italians (60%), Americans (58%), Spaniards (55%) and Czechs (54%). In turn, the biggest reluctance is declared to Russians (72%), Belarusians (48%), Gypsies (43%) and Ukrainians (38%).

Poles are little and little fond of Ukrainians. Compared to the polls from erstwhile years, the sympathy towards Ukrainians falls the fastest among Poles. Last year 40 percent of respondents declared sympathy towards Ukrainians, 26 percent were indifferent, 30 percent declared that they did not like them, and 4 percent did not have an opinion. 2 years ago it was 51 percent, 28 percent, 17 percent and 4 percent. Even before, in 2021, before Russia's attack on Ukraine, 43 percent of Poles declared sympathy towards Ukrainians, and only 26 percent dislike. So the results are lower than always before.

Ukrainians surviving in Poland are besides most frequently noted among foreigners who commit crimes in our country. In 2024, the Polish police detained 16,437 foreigners. In terms of nationality, most crimes were committed by Ukrainians who were detained by the police 9753 times. They most frequently broke the law by driving under the influence of alcohol (2943 cases), theft (930 times) and fraud (461 cases).

Comparing the current results to those of a year ago, it can be noted that although the influence of the war in Ukraine on our national sympathy and antipathy is inactive visible in any cases, it is actually little pronounced in any case. The nations that have peculiarly gained in our eyes after the outbreak of the war are inactive liked by us, but noticeably less: Americans have noted a 3-point decline in sympathy, English five-point, and Ukrainians as much as 11-point (at a 13-point increase in the declaration of dislike).

It is worth noting that the attitude towards any another nation has not changed as rapidly this year as to the Ukrainians – its evolution has besides shown many of our polls published last year. On the another hand, the nations that have peculiarly lost in our eyes after the outbreak of the war are no longer as disliked by us as they were a year ago: the sympathy for Hungarians increased by 10 percent points (with a 10-point decline of dislike), to the Germans by 7 points (with a 9-point decline of dislike), to the Belarusians by 5 points (with a 4-point decline of dislike).

Some improvement of their image in Poland was noted even by Russians – by 2 percent points the percent of people declaring sympathy towards them increased, and by 6 points the percent of people declaring aversion decreased.

OUR COMMENTS: Aversion to Russians is understandable – in addition to the actual aggressive acts of the Russian authorities, in Poland we are dealing with a long-standing run of anti-Russian hatred, effective by mainstream media. In the case of Ukrainians, the other is the case – the dislike of them grows. The survey so shows an crucial fact – Poles are little and little trusting in the authoritative media message about Ukraine. They see with their own eyes the Ukrainian shoe, impudence and claimability.
