PKP Polish Railway Lines (PKP PLK) are presently at the forefront of the largest infrastructure investments in the past of Polish rail transport. Thanks to the funds obtained from the National Recovery and Immunity Plan, 41 projects with a full value exceeding PLN 11 billion are implemented, which cover as many as 160 circumstantial tasks throughout Poland.
It is not only gigantic money – it is simply a immense work for the improvement of modern, safe and efficient railways. What's changing? How are the projects implemented? Will Poles feel the effects of these investments today?
Results: 320 million PLN, 184 km of line and 152 journeys
According to authoritative PKP PLK data so far:
- 40 tasks with a full value of over 320 million PLN were completed
- Upgraded 184 km of railway lines
- Improved safety on 152 rail and road crossings
- Eliminated 2 bottlenecks
- Installed remote control in 16 locations
- Launched dynamic passenger information strategy at 9 locations
These figures are not random – they show a systematic approach to the modernisation of railway infrastructure in key areas of safety, comfort of travellers and efficiency of rail traffic management.
PKP PLK activities within KPO
Currently implemented 41 projects divided into 5 main areas:
- Line projects – 21 pieces
These relate mainly to the modernisation of existing railway lines, which straight affects the increase in train speeds, improved safety and reduced travel time. - Digitalisation – 5 pieces
PKP PLK has already concluded 19 contracts for digitisation activities in 59 locations. distant control systems of traffic stations will let better management of train running, which will increase punctuality and safety. - Improvement of safety at journeys – 7 pieces
In this area included 44 contracts covering 374 locations. Mechanical signalling devices are gradually replaced by modern computer systems that importantly reduce the hazard of collision. - Removal of bottlenecks – 4 pieces
Within 11 contracts are carried out at 12 locations, among another things, the construction of platforms and installation of fresh outposts. This improves line capacity and reduces delays. - Dynamic passenger information strategy – 4 pieces
PKP PLK implements SDIP activities in 4 projects. Already concluded 9 contractswhich include 114 locations. fresh information boards and voice systems will supply real-time data to passengers – about arrivals, departures and possible changes in the timetable.
Technological innovation on track
As part of the digitisation activities, PKP PLK focuses on remote control of traffic stations. This form of management allows faster consequence to failures or delays, and besides allows more flexible planning of train routes.
"Remote control systems are the future of railways. They will enable us to better manage traffic, at the same time expanding the level of safety and efficiency of transport," said 1 of the representatives of the PKP PLK board.
Safety first
The safety of road and rail users is number 1 priority. The PKP PLK so intensively modernises rail and road crossings. conventional mechanisms are replaced by modern electronic systems, which are more reliable and easier to maintain.
Removing bottlenecks – improving for passengers and carriers
Narrow throats are places where railway network capacity is limited. Their elimination is simply a key step towards faster and more regular train running. The construction of platforms, the replacement of tracks and the installation of fresh signalling devices are actions to destruct “collapses” on railway routes.
What is the function of the Polish Railway Station?
PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. is simply a railway infrastructure manager in Poland. The company is liable for maintaining and developing the railway network, as well as for developing annual timetable, which is created on order of carriers, both passenger and freight.
PKP PLK acts as a public operator, which means that they operate on the principles laid down by the Rail Transport Act and are supervised by Ministry of Infrastructure.
Perspectives and follow-up
The implementation of projects financed by the National Reconstruction Plan is simply a marathon, not a sprint. But present we can see effects – increased safety, modern technological solutions and greater comfort for travellers.
PKP PLK continues to sign contracts and carry out tasks. There are many challenges waiting on the horizon, but thanks to a systematic approach and a coherent strategy, the Polish railway is slow changing into a modern mode of transport of the 21st century.
Summary
PKP Polish Railway Lines are present the leader in modernization of Polish railway infrastructure. Thanks to funds from the National Recovery and Immunity Plan, investments of large importance for the safety, comfort and efficiency of rail transport are implemented.
From the removal of bottlenecks to the expansion of passenger information systems, each task aims to make railways more attractive in the form of transport and transport.
